KeymasterMy Whirlpool Generation 2000+ (G2P DW1) dishwasher main pump develops a knocking noise when the water gets hot.
Its fine on a cold rinse and most of the time on the 40 deg wash.If I use the 50 or 70 deg it always happens (after a while, when the water is hot).
If I stop the program and run the cold rinse (after draining)within a few seconds the knocking stops.Any ideas? 😕
This model doesn’t seem to be recognised by spares suppliers, I bought it via B&Q, is equivalent to a more standard model ID

Whirlpool appliance are identified better by thier product number look for a 12 digit number on the machine. If in doubt post all the numbers up from the rating plate.
It will be similar to another model – retailers buy exclusive models from manufacturers normally with only cosmetic differences so “you can’t buy this dishwasher cheaper anywhere else”
personally i’ve never come accross a noisey whirlpool dishwasher so hopefully one of the other UKW members has and can give you more advice.

hi,
Knocking noises are usually from the spray arms hitting/catching something. you can check by jamming the arms with a fork or large dish so they can not move and run the programme. If the knocking persists then its the wash pump impellor, why? i don’t know. But the motor and impellor are 1 part and if you return to us to say it is we can guide you with the cost of said part.

Also run it on a hot wash with no dishes in and let us know how that sounds.

The noise IS from the PUMP, I have taken the side panel off and the pump shakes as it knocks/splutters. (I have previously tried it without the spray arms)
The model number is 8542 347 15810, can anyone tell me the nearest “normal” model number eg ADGxxx

8542 347 15810 is the number you would use if you want spares. The showroom or retail model no. is G2PDWI/1WH
There are many models that are similar to this one but the individual part numbers will be the sameIf it is the wash pump you need the part number is 481236158334 costing £75.55 +VAT

Just a thought, have you tried the machine with the drip tray removed. I seem to recall a problem I came across a couple of years ago that when the motor got hot it became noisy but when the tray was removed it stopped.
Cured it by attaching a foam pad to the bottom of the motor.

thanks for the info.
The pump pipe clips are snap latching, not screw, and look like if I take them off, I might not be able to refit them.
Any advice on removal and refitting?, or does it need a special tool.
thanks
Roger
As indicated before, the pump physically shakes when the problem starts, it is not touching the drip tray. It seems like something is expanding and when the temperature gets to a certain point, i.e. a certain level of expansion, it starts catching on something. When cold water is run back through, after a few seconds the shaking stops and the pump behaves normally.
