KeymasterThis should spark an interesting little conversation…
Should we put in place a maximum labour rate for Repairs@?
By that should we bill it up front with something like…
“The maximum single call labour rate allowed to be charged by companies using this system is ยฃXX for total labour on the call. Many members in most areas will charge substantially less than this rate but it will vary due to differences in geographical areas (for example, London is more expensive than Birmingham) and costs to service those locations. Your repairer will adise of their charges when they contact you.”
The reason for not sending the customer the current labour rate by email, which could easily be done, is that it strikes me as being a bit clinical and we’re trying to move upmarket here, not get into a price war… with the exception of raising the charges. ๐

ParticipantI am surprised that there has been no response to this question as it one of the biggest considerations of the customer when deciding whether or not to have a repair done; one advantage of posting a maximum labour charge would be to level the playing field between one man operations and larger agents and franchises so there would be no benefit in choosing to go with or the other. One of the best ways of deciding this charge could be to ask those signing up to the e-jobs what their current rates are and taking the average as the maximum labour charge but this would mean that those who as a norm charge more would have to comply with this charge for all e-jobs taken.
Of course there would have to be variations due to geographic location and it may be an idea to post a minimum call out charge for when a job is refused or is B.E.R. I applaud the idea of trying to be as โup frontโ as possible with this venture I wish all of you that sign up to it a prosperous future.

Tuesday was so manic on UKW I never even spotted Kens post until you mentioned it today Richard. I often find that sitting on the UKW Homepage monitoring the ‘Last 20 posts’, when its busy and I don’t watch out, its lost forever ๐
Anyway, to the point…Publishing Labour Rates? Of course why the hell not

KeymasterRe: Labour Rates
Yeah the thing that you have to remember here is that apart from the obvious geographical and company differences you also have product variations as well. By that I mean gas and refrigeration work which is substantially higher than a washer in many instances, quite rightly too I think.
So in effect to do this (which I think we probably eventually will at some stage) we’d have to list the maximum charge made in each product area to be coming clean as it were.
But then many people charge different rates on different brands too! ๐
And some charge per the time spent. ๐
See, not just to easy is it? ๐
