lamona 8603 – won’t drain, won’t spray water

tldr: when I turn the dishwasher on, I hear a noise which sounds like the pump working. No water sprays out. There are no blockages that I can see. If I manually add water, it doesn’t drain away or spray either when the dishwasher is turned on

Firstly, it was working and cleaned the dishes fine. Next morning after a cycle was complete, there was a load of water stuck in the bottom. At this stage I just fiddled around in the water, removing bits and feeling for any clogs.

I then scooped/sponged the water out and looked for blockages everywhere in the dishwasher and the waste pipe under the sink. Everything seems fine except I found a large piece of broken glass in the hole that connects to the pump. As I haven’t removed that section before, I think the glass only fell in my previous stage, rather than it being something that went in a while ago and has just damaged the pump.

After turning the dishwasher on, it just makes a noise and doesn’t spray water now. I tried adding water and it still doesn’t drain the water either.

Just to note, the dishwasher doesn’t have a visible float switch, which seems to be a common thing in troubleshooting. Its built in and I can’t easily remove boards to access parts. So looking for guidance before I go that route.

if the drain pump is running and its not draining you have a dud pump or a blockage

You should be able to access the pump rotor through the sump – there’s probably a detachable cover it. You’ll likely find more glass in there that is jamming the pump.

so just to confirm, this is the area you mean? In a video I saw a cover but mine doesn’t appear to have one. It’s just an open hole, which I assume is to the pump. When I feel there there are ridges but it’s a very awkward angle and I can’t find any more debris. I removed that small amount in the photo.

you will have to remove lower cover off the front and remove pump

it twists off but there is a latch that has to be unlocked before it moves that can be a bit tricky

It had been a week or two since I tried using the dishwasher and it randomly started working today without further maintenance. I can fathom what caused this….

The saga continues…

So it seems to have worked for a few washes, including a High temperature which I used one of those cleaning things with.

A few days later, I did another High temperature wash with a full load of dishes that were particularly dirty, before going to bed. The following morning, the dishwasher was still running, making the same loud wurring noise. I think it might be the pump or motor? Upon inspection, there was only a tiny bit of water in the sunk which I sponged out. A day later the dishwasher still only makes that loud noise

when you sponged out the water was is from inside by opening door or underneath where the motor is

there is a float down underneath that keeps the pump running if there is water down there. you may just have a leak thats causing your problems

It was by opening the dishwasher door and taking the filter out. As it’s a built in unit with kickboards basically fixed into place it’s not too easy to access from underneath.

So the recommendation is that I take the dishwasher out, look underneath and look for a leak? Potentially silicone it up if I find one

first off remove kick strip and outer wooden door

then remove cover below door and see if water is in there. if yes mop out and run unit and see if you can see any drips using a torch

Hi Dave, I got round to checking and found a pool of water in the bottom. There’s not enough room to see clearly where a drip is from.

I take it I’ll need to move the dishwasher out and maybe tip it on it’s back to work on it further? Is it likely to be a part that I can replace?

take the covers off and run it and look for drips but first off mop out the water and see if it happens again. had lots where i have mopped it out and not seen them again

if you do tilt it back, do it slowly and carefully as you dont want the water getting on electrics
