ParticipantHi
My lamona dual fuel oven strongly smells of gas, in 80{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of times, when it is on. No gas smell whatsoever when the oven is not in use. Also the oven quite often switches itself off after few minutes of operation: fan keeps going, but no flame. The gas smell is present even whilst flame is lit and the oven seems to be working ok. I usually have to switch it off and restart again which seems to cure this problem sometimes. It has been like that since the oven was new. We had two specialists looking at it and they couldn’t detect any faults.. But today the gas smell was so bad, it even set off our CO2 alarm. Please help..September 20, 2016 at 9:42 pm #441115electrofix

Thank you for you reply Dave.
I think I might be wrong calling it dual fuel. The exact model is HJA 1140.
It only smells of gas when oven is on, whilst flame is still going. My confusion is that we had 2 specialists looking at it and they done all testing and said nothing they can find.
The hob works fine, no problems. It’s just oven. The grill bit we use rarely, although I noticed that flame is not coming out of all little wholes that are on a bar.
Also it’s worth mentioning that we use gas bottles as a gas supply, I think it is called LPG supply, and our oven was converted for LPG use in instsllation, I believe it was very easy process.September 21, 2016 at 9:23 am #441117Dollylola

Now my husband is saying it’s definitely gas oven, it’s just fan bit that uses electric.
Also oven switches itself off ever so often, after first few mins of use. My guess that it’s a safety bit malfunctioning perhapsSeptember 21, 2016 at 10:52 am #441118kwatt

So far as I can tell the HJA1140 is a built in gas hob.
The oven should be a totally separate appliance and will have it’s own model number.

Oh, sorry, I look like complete time waster. That sticker with model is actually on the oven bit, although there is another one inside oven says hja0540

Deep joy, it’s a Stoves made one that there’s hardly any info on with little to no parts availability either by the look of it. 🙁

Two facts stand out here. 1) That it’s been like it from new. 2) That it was converted from natural gas to LPG at that time. The combined conclusion has to be that the conversion wasn’t carried out correctly especially with reference to the main oven. Possibly the wrong gas nipple was used or the air ratio adjustment of the main oven burner set incorrectly. Or maybe even the regulator on the gas bottle is wrong or faulty?
That carbon monoxide alarm has done its job for sure though and you’re safe and well. Don’t use the oven now until it is sorted or disposed of. :plug:

CO doesn’t have any odour. 😉
Gas does as it’s added for safety.
CO alarms go off all the time, often for reasons not related such as exhaust fumes from traffic among a number of other things, including faulty sensors so, it’s not a slam dunk that the oven will be the problem. Without fully testing the entire gamut of gas appliances and doing a background CO check there’s no way to say with certainty what has triggered the alarm.
So, the oven could be swapped out and you’d have exactly the same issue if the cause of it is not determined and that’s not the reason.
The only thing to do is to get in a specialist gas engineer to analyse it all and check everything to try to get to the root of it and, that’s gonna cost you.

Thank you guys for your help.
I know that the gas nipple was supplied by Lamona with the oven, so I hope it is the right one. Where can air ratio adjustor can be found? And the main oven burner settings?
the regulator on the gas bottle is one year old, but we had these oven problems for about 2 years now.September 21, 2016 at 6:46 pm #441125kwatt

That’s not stuff that someone without gas experience should be messing with, could be extremely dangerous.

Ditto to my colleagues comments. Only a Gas Safe qualified person could possibly check and test your oven. DIY intervention dangerous in the extreme.
