    Hello,

Well my 10yr old Siemens washing machine finally bit the bullet, so I’m looking for a new one. I was very happy with this one – it cost £400, and only in the last year did it give any trouble (had to replace the drain pump). I’m not sure if Siemens are still the same build quality, but I’m looking at Bosch and Siemens machines.

I’m after at least a 9kg machine I think? (last one was a 7kg model, we are a large family, doing 2-3 loads a day, we also have a baby using cloth nappies so need a good 60C extended wash with extra rinsing).

    Budget is around £700 max.

I was looking at Bosch WAT28371GB, but have also seen Bosch WAW325H0GB at a good price with cashback. I was also looking at the Siemens WM14T470GB.

I’m not interested in auto-dosing or wifi connectivity or anything gimmicky. Will usually just be doing standard cotton 40C washes, 60C towel, bedding and nappy washes, and the occasional duvet or outdoor clothing washes, as well as hand/wool wash. A quick wash feature and reload option would be great.

Does anyone have any opinion on these machines, or can suggest something else I should look at?

    Many thanks!

be careful with load claims as I could build a machine to take 20Kg but due to the size constraints it would be impossible to make the drum big enough to use it

kitchen gap sizes are 600mm width and the height to the work surface the only way they can increase a bit is come out at the front. All this means is the claim the machine can take 9kg maybe mechanically true but hard to achieve with size constraints

Hmm…do I really want a 9kg machine then? My old one was 7kg and it felt that sometimes it wouldn’t take everything I was trying to wash, so quite often I would have to split the load into 2.

We are quite heavy users – the machine is on every day for at least 2, sometimes 3 loads. I’m wondering if I should perhaps go for a Siemens one which has a 5yr guarantee.

    Thanks for the advice!

Meant to add – I’d discounted the Miele machines as the 9kg ones were out of my budget, but wondering if I might be better looking at a smaller capacity Miele? We are a heavy use household so need a machine that can take a doing!

My only hesitation would be if it needed repaired – are parts expensive / am I restricted to a Miele engineer? In saying that, I do have a Miele dishwasher & tumble drier that have not caused any problems in 5yrs.

I can get an 8kg Miele for around £800 on John Lewis with a 5yr guarantee, so slightly over budget but would be ok with this if it is a workhorse. Alternatively there is the aforementioned 9kg Siemens for £600 (with £50 trade in) and a 5yr guarantee.

    Any thoughts?

    Miele all the way….

I replaced my Siemens (bearings went after 8 years) with a Miele & the cleaning power is phenomenal. I was very happy with the Siemens (excellent cleaning power) but the Miele is on another level. Clothes come out less crumpled, in a loose pile & not stuck to the sides of the drum. So less ironing, especially school trousers & skirts. Clothes also smell incredibly fresh, no need to use conditioner.

I purchased the cheapest Miele going. Its very basic looking but its outstanding in every way. No bells & whistles but all I need is the usual washing programmes. I don’t need auto-dosing, interior lights etc.

I use Lidl Formil concentrated liquid (cheap as chips) & everything comes out spotless.

If I have particularly dirty/stained items, grass stains etc, then I put the programme on soak.

A relative has always sworn by Miele, 5 young kids & needed needed a work horse. She’s now nearly 80 but won’t deviate from a Miele!!
