Initially had a problem with no drum rotation and error sequence 51. The forums suggested that first check should be brushes, which were indeed in a bad state, but having replaced them the machine still does not work as it should.
The filter is clear and machine drains ok. The drum turns freely by hand.
On a wash cycle – Cold wash – fills only – no agitation no drain or spin – ends with error.
On spin only, the pump runs and and drum rotates slowly 2/3 times then stops – this happens I think 3 times and then silent until end of cycle. Ends with error.
error sequence is 52
Can anyone suggest anything more I can do to narrow down the fault?

Error 52 is a failure to get a reading from the motor tacho.
So, could be the wiring, tacho itself, the motor or the motor triac on the main board that would cause it.
If the tacho on the motor is open circuit you’ve found the problem but, for that FHP motor, you can’t get the tacho any longer, only a full motor. You really, really don’t want to know the cost of that.

Thanks for the tip K.
I have continuity across the tacho – pins 7 & 8
not sure what the rest do but continuity also on pins 2/3 4/5 1/6
guess I need to do a visual check on pcb?

PCB’s are pretty solid on this model though it cannot be ruled out entirely. The most likely is a break in the wiring, especially the motor plug connections. Worth a close look.

easier said than done – 9 pins connected, cable colors black/orange or orange/black – bundled with thermistor (orange/black) pump (black/orange) and pressure thingy (orange/black).
definitely not user friendly.

Checked continuity on all relevant cables – all good. Even checked the pressure chamber and operation of the pressure switch – still good.
Last resort – PCB. This appears to have a dry joint, arrowed in the pic. This belongs to a power relay for the motor (I looked it up).
There is no continuity between the pin and the track it sits on, but I can get continuity between the pin and other areas of the board.
Can I simply slap on some solder and hope for the best, or does this suggest the relay is kaput?

There seems little to be lost from trying it.
