ParticipantMy JLBIDW1200 dishwasher started tripping the power (it did it twice, but I left it and was able to restart it on a rinse cycle to empty it) so I took it out (it’s built-in) and found it has also been leaking for some time.
By “power trip” I mean the RCD.
I suppose the float switch on the plastic tray under the dishwasher hasn’t been cutting it off, because it never stopped working before this recent power trip. Maybe it wasn’t completely level.
Anyway, the point is, how do I figure out where the leak’s coming from? There’s no obvious signs at any of the hoses / components, although there are a few places that looked damp / stained, in particular around what I suppose must be the main motor.
I’m not really sure what I’m looking for – are leaks generally from components themselves, from hoses, or from connection points?
Do I have to connect it up again and run it while looking underneath (from a safe distance!) to see what happens?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

If it is safe to do so yes. The alternative is to power off first then check each component and hose coupling, especially the main circulating pump as the shaft seal could be leaking.

Many thanks. It looks like the shaft seal. That’s where the most gunge is. Is that a replaceable item or does it mean a whole new pump? The pump is about £150…

A whole new pump or into the skip with it are the only two options.

Many thanks. I’ve run it while sitting up on blocks so I could see the leak, and there’s one from the drain hose. Hopefully that’s the only one, because it’s somewhat cheaper than a pump. I shall replace it and try again.

I also found evidence of other leaks from various joints so replaced the appropriate washers, O rings and hoses, and reassembled. So far, so good.
