ParticipantHi there,
Just discovered a leak underneath machine. Only 18 months old.
It seems to start at begining of rinse phase when water level has risen above the level of the door. So suspect door/drum seal.Firstly are my suspiscions correct and secondly how do i change the seal on this type of machine.
Thanks in advance.

100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} Indesit machine. :rolls: It is usually easy to see if there are any holes in the door seal. Even new machines can have the seal damaged by foreign bodies left in the washing.
Fold the seal back and shine a torch round to examine it. I would make very sure you do need one before attempting to change it.
Fitting the seal is a bit if a pain, depending upon which type of clamp is used to hold the seal onto the outer drum it will be difficult or very difficult.
Either way be prepared for some sore fingers, a considerable amount of frustration and eventual satisfaction should you manage to change it.
Removing the door and then tilting the machine back against a wall gives you a little more access.
Be sure to remove the mains plug first.

Thanks Jim,
Further investigation has revealed a drip about 1 to 2 inches left of centre and about 1 inch back. Of course it all collects on the mounting rail and spreads out but its a starting point.
On day off will take out and tip up and see what is in the vicinity but would be handy to get service manual . Do you know where i can get one.Don’t worry will disconnect but sometimes just got to do things with power applied.
Thanks Again.

No you don’t, not with the access panels removed. :rolls:
Have you had a good look inside the door seal, some holes are miniscule but will still leak when the hot water and detergent get at them.
Whatever you do , do not ‘tip it up’. By all means tilt it back against a wall, lie it down on the dispenser side but please don’t tip it over.
If you become an Indesit engineer the may supply you with a manual but as all of their technical information is online at a dedicated, restricted access website I doubt it.

Thanks Jim,
I was talking generally about jobs and i certainly couldn’t do my job without having the power on sometimes ie. setting up motion / hydraulic systems , computers etc.Its funny how it only happens on cold water cycle but hopefully i’ll get there.

One common area of leakage is from the soap dispenser drawer. Make sure it is clean and try and turn down your water pressure if it is high by adjusting the cold tap to the machine.
Rinses are always cold water and in most cases fill to a higher level so check the sides of the door seal.

It usually leaks down the front but often appears as though it is leaking from the bottom of the machine.

Door seals are one of the most common cause of leaks on most machines, the hole or spilt in the seal can usually be seen with careful examination though.

Me again,
I think i have been going down the wrong path right enough. Just to clarify things , does the cold water only enter the machine after the first spin cycle of a 40 degree wash.
If so then its leaking as soon as the cold water fill starts. It is not leaking out of the front of dispenser unit so internal somewhere. Once the hot water enters the dispenser i take it that it takes the same path into the machine so it cant be a pipe from there onward.
Before i take machine apart i would like to know as much as i can. How does the top come of this machine , if at all , as i want to check the cold water connection onto the dispenser unit. Don’t suspect water pressure as haven’t noticed any increase recently and has worked ok for 18 months.Any help much appreciated. 😮

No hoses between fill valves and dispenser, they are built into the back of the dispenser. Machine appears to be cold fill only, different valve used for rinse cycle. Is yours H&C fill????
As it is a built in machine the flat top is secured by several screws around the edges.

Sorry Jim,
Not quite getting this. When you say cold fill only do you mean its only got cold water to it?Fatboy

Hi there,
It has a cold and hot water pipe to it if this helps.

Yes you are correct. Just a bad diagram that doesn’t show both hoses thats all. :rolls:
It will still fill with cold water on most of the washes but uses a different cold valve for the rinses.
