This fridge freezer had stopped running completely. The defrost timer had stopped in the defrost mode. I advanced it and the compressor kicked in again. I didn’t have the correct timer for this to replace as it was a moulded timer with a lead so hoped the fridge would be ok until I could get the timer. When I went back a few days later the fridge had stopped again with the timer stuck again in defrost mode. Replaced the timer but 2 days later was told that the fridge had stopped again. I’m now a bit puzzled as to why this didn’t cure the seemingly obvious fault. I don’t know for sure until I go back if the timer is stuck in defrost mode again but if it is does anyone know what might be causing this apart from a new but faulty timer.
    Thanks

Hi mate, I’m not familiar with this model, but I’d be checking the components on the defrost circuit, particularly thermal fuse or thermostat.
The timer could be going into defrost mode then waiting for an impulse from a sensor or thermostat.
If a thermal fuse or even the heater itself is open circuit, then that would be your problem.
I’m not saying that this is your fault 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}, but I’d be looking in this area next.

    Cheers.

Thanks for the reply. Turns out that the heater was open circuit. I was of the understanding through previous experience that the timer motor has constant power, so as it clicked into defrost it will keep running sending power to the heater and then continue on to compressor run mode whether the heater/ stat/ or thermal fuse is open or not. That’s why on many occasions I’d come across a fridge running with an iced up evaporator and I would advance the timer to defrost and if the heater came on, change the timer, if not check heater/ cut in stat or thermal fuse etc.
Im going to change the heater but am interested to know why the timer would stop if anyone knows just because I like to know how things work.
This system just had a thermal fuse and cut in/out stat in evaporator.

    Thanks

Here is a typical wiring diagram which should show you why it may stop, it doesn’t sound like it is quite the same diagram as they are using on your machine but it will give you an idea of the technique that they use.
