Participanti have had this a few years with no complaints. then today it has tripped my circuit breaker. i changed the fuse in the plug and it tripped again. no one was near it when it blew either.
so what i need to know is it a fatal blow or would it be repairable?
thanks in advanceJuly 8, 2006 at 8:26 pm #181322gegsy

Hi
It most probably is your compressor that has failed. Only an ohm meter and an earth leakage check can confirm really.
If you are in any doubt of these then please use the link below to find an engineer.Greg

would this be a costly repair?
or would i be better getting a new freezer.

ok so i leave the freezer off over night. was about to dump it today and thought ‘oh i’ll give it another go and hey presto its working!!!!
does this still sound like the compressor?

As stated previously you would have to do those meter checks before placing blame. It does seem odd though, was there anything on the same circuit as the freezer that isnt on now??
Unplug appliance before attempting any repair :plug:Greg

nope all is exactly the same as before the freezer tripped the fuses.
i even reset the fuse and re plugged the freezer in to make sure it was that.
i shall leave it running empty for now to see what happens and i have hoovered the back to clear the dust build up.July 9, 2006 at 5:13 pm #181328Penguin45

Micki – it will run forever and is most unlikely to get down to temperature if you run it empty – air has appalling insulation properties! The less air left in the freezer, the more efficiently it will run.

i appreciate that penguin but i don’t want to risk losing the contents if i refill it untill it has stayed on for a while and behaved.
thanks anyway -
