    Hi.

We’re having some issues with our 18 month old Lebiherr Frost Free Fridge Freezer.

Every few days the freezer does its defrost cycle, as we gather is the norm. We noticed excessive (more than usual) ‘clicking’ as the unit re-froze after defrost, and also once clicking coming from the freezer fan.

As a precaution we placed a max min thermometer probe in the top drawer of the freezer. We noticed a max temperature range of -2 to -6 degrees Celcius, which we believe to be abnormally high.

In fact the unit appears to be getting worse in that the last defrost took it to 0 degrees.

The fridge also occassionally seems to be getting warm (8.5 degrees) and unusually cold (-4 degrees).

Between these times all seems normal. We time the defrosts to be happening about every 130 hours.

Has anyone any idea what this may be and what parts they would change (this is so I can at least make sense of what the qualified folk are trying/may try)?

    Many thanks

    Hi,

A model and service number would help. 😉

If the readings are correct and, please note that the cheap thermostats you get for ovens, fridges etc. are often wildly inaccurate, then the fridge and freezer are operating out of range.

Given that it’s both that are abnormal I’d expect it to be a control problem either with thermistors or the PCB although there are other possibilities that can be explored.

Sorry, its a Leibherr CNesf 3033 – haven’t got the service number handy.

I got the best digital thermometers max-min probe thermometers I could find, and I do understand that they measure air temperature, rather than average temp. I have tested the thermometers and they appear to be accurate.

These temperatures are recorded when the doors have not been opened for hours/days.

What would be the expected defrost temperature of such a freezer during defrost?

Is there more than one thermister to replace (generally)?

What confused me (if it were the PCB) is that things appear to be getting gradually worse. I guess I’d expect the fault to be consistent if it were something like the pcb?

Ring Liebherr (Coolectric) if its only 18 months old – they’re guaranteed for 2 years

I will need the service number, can’t track it with that info.

But the above is correct, it’s under warranty so why worry about it, just get Liebherr to fix it?

I can’t give you expected temperatures other than what they should average at and, if you want to do a proper temp test you need to use a data logging thermostat so you can get accurate average temperature. Spot temps give you a clue, but they are of little use in determining the overall running.

In general though they’re not needed, other than at factory. So, we usually don’t get that sort of info for service.

Dunno how many thermistors are in it, I’d need the service number to look it up.

    Re: Leibherr Defrost Cycle

We did (along with who we bought it from) but we’ve kinda been in the loop for a few months – we’ve got to a point where we feel that either it works or they can have it back.

The build quality seems good, but it needs to work!

We’ve not been able to use the freezer for several months now and each time an engineer comes we lose the fridge contents too.
