Helping my daughter, who lives hours away.
Model GRB6GVK.
Main, bottom, oven was left on accidentally for a few (4?) hours, and following this she was unable to turn the knob past the 9 setting back round to off. (Sounds odd but I am assured that this is normal operation, to turn past 9 (clockwise) to turn it off, rather than turning down 9,8,7…..2,1 to off.)
- Knob removed and spindle and knob are in good condition. It’s not that the knob is spinning on the spindle.
- Spindle will not turn further with pliers. Spindle lubricated, no change.
- Turned gas off at supply, waited for thermocouple to cool, and gas back on.
- Suspects gas is still coming from oven burner, so now disconnected from supply at the wall.
- Checked supply pipe connector with soapy water and all seems well.
While they find a professional, Gas Safe repair person, does anyone have an idea what has happened? It seems a very dangerous way to fail, that you can’t turn the oven off at the knob.
Thanks,
