Went to this machine yesterday no pump due to kink in drain hose. But what really bothered me was the fact that this machine was not locking the door and would wash rinse and spin with the door open if you gave it the chance. I changed the door lock with no improvement I guess it must be the timer. I wonder how many more like this are out there! She reckons it has been like that for over a year and she has a 3 year old son CAN YOU BELEIVE. I wrote her a bill explaining the machine was a death trap and should not be used. I was tempted to cut the plug off so she could not use it.

If this was a gas appliance and something happened as the last engineer to visit you would be responsible, and heaven forbid, if a fatality occured you would be held responsible!!!! sobering thought!

What I would have done in that instance would have been to make safe the appliance ie unplug, we have no right to start maiming customers appliances; (in a gas instance would have been uncouple flexi hose or to turn gas tap feeding appliance off) and advise the responsible person verbally and in writing of the possible consequences if they persisted in using the appliance until the fault was rectified by a suitably qualified person 😀

I left the appliance unplugged, I only charged her an estimate fee of £15 and a reciept highlighting how dangerous this machine could be. I dont see as I could have done anymore.
I even agreed to change the door lock for just £15 labour to make this machine safe but as I already mentioned this failed to cure the problem.

I may be sticking my neck out here, As I am not familiar with this particular model. However I vaguely recall a similar fault on an older Zanussi. Machine would run, but door could be opened at any time. The fault was due to wear in what I call the escutcheon plate, the plastic plate that the door pecker fits through to engage the interlock. The damage was to the inside of the plate, and was only visible with plate removed from machine. So check the escutcheon plate[if it has one]

If the door lock & the striker plate (escutcheon thingy) are ok then I would make sure either you or the customer speaks to Zanussi head office, they usually take that kind of thing very seriously and may wish to investigate it further regardless of whether its under warranty or not. The consequences of the door being opened at full spin dont bear thinking about.

There was no sign of any wear to the door mechanism, I will ring Zanussi tomorrow to see if I can create some interest.
    Thanks Turbo

Well I rang customer services this morning and told them about this machine and within 5mins a technician was on the phone asking me for the customers details. He seem to think the machine would be uplifted.
I will ring the customer Friday to find out what happened.
Thanks everyone for the input on this problem and well done Zanussi for responding so quickly.

Zanussi visited this machine Monday 20th Nov after I reported it on the Monday 6th Nov not sure why there has been such a delay?
The engineer tried a new door lock as I had done but with no effect it would still spin with the door open.
Now a senior engineer is going out next Monday 27th of Nov. 😥

Customer took delivery of new replacement machine yesterday. 😆 Thanks to Andy for sorting this one out.
According to the customer the report on this machine stated that the door latch plate and door hook (striker) were worn. As this machine was only 3 years old and the customer first became aware of the problem when the machine was only two years old I find this worrying. This machine was still on its first set of motor brushes so had not had an abnormal amount of use. Lets hope this was a one off case.
    Thanks Turbo

I would imagine this was a one off.

We see loads, and the same arrangemnt is used for all the E/Lux group machines produced in the same factory.

The Mc Carthy Stone properties have them in their laundry rooms, so you can imagine the hammering they get, and despite all that use, this to me is unheard of.

    Happy ending though.
