ParticipantInstalled a machine the other day to a right fussy old get. Took out the old machine, to find floor at different levels with old lino, tiles etc. Moving the machine and he says ‘you are going to clean under it aren’t you’ as his son in his 30’s is stood next to me watching 😡 Son ended up cleaning it.
Got the machine in and it wasn’t parallel with the work surface but level and solid on the floor, to be told’ it’s not level I want it level with the work surface’.
I got it close using a block on one side to lift both legs up rather than 1″ on the feet, but he’s kicking off again cos it’s not as he wants it..
Question is where do you stop when the floor is a shambles?September 21, 2016 at 9:59 am #441109bagman

I get it stable and solid. If the floor is that far out that it’s not level with the work surface I tell them to get the floor sorted and I’ll come back and redo it free of charge.
As for the cleaning bit…:(
I once had a snooty customer pass me a brush and dustpan without even speaking to me. I told her I wasn’t qualified to use that equipment, she just laughed.
She’s still a good customer though to be fair.September 21, 2016 at 1:18 pm #441110Martin

There’s two ways of looking at it….
1) Removing old integrated, supplying and installing a suitable replacement the customer would expect some degree of professional service that wouldn’t necessarily require their intervention. So no matter what the state of the walls, floor or kitchen furniture the installer would be expected to deal with it.
2) If the customer simply wants the appliance, they purchased elsewhere, to be installed and the location was found unsuitable then it is not unreasonable to suggest the problem is theirs to solve.

I assume you raised the point that the old machine looked the same.
I know its easy to forget when your dashing around but I try always to point the obvious out before starting the job.September 21, 2016 at 10:23 pm #441112cornwell40

It was to install afreestanding machine. TBH pulled the machine out before all this was noticed. He did say that he’d had trouble when last one they had delivered and had to finish it off themselves. 😉

When I have to remove integrated appliances, I normally take a few pictures. If the appliance is poorly installed I sometimes use a soft pencil mark where things were installed. Once the customer is happy, a quick wipe and the pencil marks are gone.
If the installation is bad enough, I’ll point it out to the customer as well. Had a few PITA customers.
