Hi, I wonder if some one can point me in the right direction.
My lg is 10 days out of 2 year manufacturers warranty and has stopped working.
There are no alarms or fault lights on.
The lower fan is running and the lower compressor is red hot.
All the door controls function but neither fridge or freezer are cooling
    The model number is GWP227YUQA

    Thanks for any help.
Oh I have just read about lg “American freezers” and the quality of.

    Hi,

Have you contacted LG to see if they will offer any help?

I’m not familiar with that generation of LG side by side machines but it does sound like a classic compressor failure I’m afraid. If it is and I’m right then you are looking at £200 or so to fix it.

Do check that the condenser is clear of dust and ooze though. On most of these machines you can get the lower grill off and just vacuum away the offending dirt for the most part. That can block airflow and stop the machine from working correctly.

Other than that I can’t offer too much help as I don’t know enough about the machines but a couple of the guys do look at these.

    Hi K,
    Thanks for your reply.
I havnt tried lg yet since I read posts of bad customer support.
Every thing works except the cold, the fans all blow.
Waiting for it to come out of test mode to see if I can see a difference in compressor running or not, can’t remember the noise of it before.
A faulty compressor would be bad news I guess as all soldered fittings?
I will try a clean up although doesn’t seem overly dirty. Would dirt stop the cooling?
    Thanks again.

If it is the compressor then it’s a specialist job, yes. You cannot DIY it.

Dust/dirt can stop it but it has to be pretty bad to do so. Essentially it removes the airflow over the condenser and, all too often on American style side by sides as the air is drawn from the lower front grill, stops cooling to the compressor as well.

The compressor should cut out on an overheat protection device though if that happens then restart once it cools off.
