We have an LG Dishwasher LD-12AW2 which is not filling.

I saw the previous thread on this topic viewtopic.php?f=33&t=2593 but the topic is locked, so I’m starting a new one.

As with many others, it seems that the solenoid is still working because when 240V is applied manually, the inlet opens and the machine fills with water. However, under operation, the solenoid is only receiving 66V and does not open.

What is the correct voltage that should be at the solenoid during normal operation? (ie: is it likely that we have a faulty solenoid or PCB?)

    Thanks for any help
    Matt

The solenoid valves should get 240volts to operate. Trace the wires from the valve back to their source. If they go to a PCB there may be a poor connection on the edge connector. If this is OK and the valve is switched by a relay, the relay may have burnt internal contacts or a dry joint where it is soldered in. If one or other wires goes to a pressure switch, this may be the culprit.

Re: LG Dishwasher LD-12AW2 not filling

We have traced the wire back to the control circuit PCB inside the door and there is 66V leaving this connector. This is the same wire that comes from the door latch/switch and seems to provide power to all the internal components: pump, rotor, etc…. (I am surprised that 240V is on the switch attached to the door handle of the device, btw)

Perhaps there is indeed a problem with the PCB, and the 66V coming off it is not enough to operate the solenoid, but is enough to operate the outlet pump and valve. Bizarre.

Tomorrow is Monday, we’ll be calling LG about a replacement PCB.

    Thanks for your help,
    Matt

Obviously I only work on UK appliances but I don’t suppose your dishwashers are that much different to ours. It is quite standard to have the door switch switching 240 volts, similarly dishwasher inlet valves, wash pumps, drain pumps, heaters, detergent doors etc operate at this voltage. when you say there is also only 66 volts at the door switch, is it a double pole switch and you are measuring between the 2 poles? Perhaps there is a problem with the mains inlet suppressor.

Same problem, 66V at the solenoid but faced with throwing the thing out due to the price of PCB’s I dug around and found the problem was a sticky level sensor. It is located behind the front kickboard and is connected to the sump via a 4mm hose. I disconnected it, gave it a rinse and all is well. 😀 I don’t know why LG feels it necessary to supply 66V to an unused solenoid, makes life crap for troubleshooting.

Did you actually get a price on a PCB or just assume ?
LG PCB’s are actually reasonably inexpensive and it would be well worth the expense on one of these.

It’s common for a PCB fault to cause these to not fill. Replacement part should be readily available.

There was a recall on these PCBS ring Lg
