As a domestic sparky i like to have a bash at fault finding my home appliances when they brake. My LG fridge freezer has stopped cooling. Compressor runs but is hot to touch, the coils were full of fluff but now clean, compressor fan is running. When the fridge first turns on i can hear the clicking of a solenoid. The evaporator fan runs ok. The heating element of the defrost system is not on.
I am thinking that a faulty thermistor or thermostat maybe the culprit? Alternatively its a gas issue and thats beyond my technical competence. Any thoughts would be gratefully received.
Also given that we store medicine in the fridge freezer and its now 10 years old if one part goes am i better off throwing the white towel in and painfully opening my wallet?

if the compressor is running something should get cold. all the sensors and stats do is to turn the compressor on and off and if its on the evaporator should freeze

if it does not you need a fridge engineer as I cant do my own but you also have to think if its worth it if the compressor has failed

    Thanks for reply Dave,

Yes your right the thermostat will make or break to compressor so can’t be that. As the coils were full of dog hair prior to my cleaning them it would make sense the compressor has been over heating.

Did you find out what the problem was? I also have an LG fridge/freezer, 6 years old, where the compressor is working overtime but it is not cooling. I also hoovered out the coils but it did not help. I was told that the gas had been used up, but after reading this forum that seems unlikely….

Re: LG Fridge Freezer not cooling

the gas does not get used up its a sealed system so its one of 2 things

1 you have a gas leak
    2 the compressor has failed

both jobs can only be done by a fridge engineer and if its a leak it probably scrap. even if the compressor has failed its going to be expensive and you might well be better buying a new one with a full guarantee
