KeymasterHi.. can you help? Our washing machine seems to be leaking water with every wash and it seems to be coming from the powder drawer. We have taken it out and tried to check where and why its happening but no joy yet. Can you recommend and engineer to come out if it is necessary?

Click the link above for a repair.
We could do with a little more info. How old is the machine, or what is it’s model number? When is the water coming out of the soap-box? Contantly? During the rinses? When it’s filling? When it’s spinning?

Hi.. the machine was bought in Feb 03 which makes it just over 2 years old and not eligible for any warrenty. It is a model WM1480FHD. The soap is coming out of the soap box/dispenser we think and when it is washing.. we can see it running down the left hand side when the washing is on.
Hope thats enough info!

hi,
These soap boxes are well known for leaks, you will need a replacement dispensor. There are two but 4925ER1002D can be converted to fit either application approx price £20.00 plus vat plus fitting.

Had a couple of these (and a few Samsungs with a sock stuck between the drums at the dispenser hose.
Check there’s no blockage where the dispenser hose fits the outer tub.DP

hi hilda
the most probable couse is either a blocked pump or hose assembly or that the pump has failed.if you have tried to clear the pump then it may need a engineer visit.
please look in the repairs@ section to find an engineer

Hi Hilda, you will have to determine whether there is something in between the drum and the tub, one of the most common culprits is the wires from bras geting lost in machine. if you think this is possible then you may manage to retrieve this through one of the holes in the drum (if one end happens to be sticking through) or through the heater apperture.
BUT PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT THE APPLIANCE IS UNPLUGGED BEFORE DOING ANYTHING.
The other possibillity is that the bearings have failed, this is not entirely uncommon and is fairly serious, if you are lucky the drum shaft may not need replacing with a resulting cost in the £100 region, and maybe £50 more if the drum shaft req replacing also.
I hope this helps a little, if i had a little more detail about noise i could possibly have given you a bit more info.
