    Hi Guys

I have been reading this forum and it’s been really great in helping me make my decision on a new washer dryer. I am moving into a new flat and I am 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure that there’s not going to be any space for a separate tumble dryer.
Having gone round the shops the general consensus seems to be that it’s a complete waste of money going for the cheaper (or even not so cheap) offers from Hotpoint, Hoover, Indesit etc and so I decided to go for a better machine.
I think Zanussi might offer a decent compromise eg ZWD1471 for about £380. However my real question was about LG. Cu**y’s have an offer at the moment on their LG WD12336AD at £449 reduced from £599. I have had a good look at it and it really seems to be a nice machine and would do everything I want but I have never seen any of you guys say anything about LG. Is there something I should know?
I have had a look at the Bosch machines and they just don’t seem to have a machine I like for under £500 (even in the sales).

OK well any comments you have would be greatfully received.
    Happy New Year

    Daniel.

    Re: LG Washer dryers

There is one truth that is absolute in the current domestic appliance market, YOU ONLY GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.
20 years ago, a good, basic washing machine without a dryer would have cost you £300 upwards. The basic technology apart from the control mechanisms is the same. the only reason why you have £200 washers and £350 washer/dryers in the shops is first by reducing production costs, and then, and this applies in most cases by reducing the quality by using cheaper components and materials. You then finish up with todays situation, a two to five year disposable product. My personal advice is pay the little extra for the Bosch, a better investment than any LG.

What is it that you don’t like about the Bosch? A perfectly adequate machine with a 2 year guarantee. The Zanussi machines again are adequate, perhaps not as robust as the Bosch.

LG doesn’t tend to get mentioned much in these forums as it is relatively low volume. The brand is not particularly popular amongst the independent trade as LG does not have its own service network and this causes all sorts of issues. From your perspective, parts are expensive. If they haven’t got them, they’re a long way away and you’ll wait a long time.

Buy the Bosch – you know it make sense.

Go for the Bosch…….we repair LG under guarantee through our CDSL contract and LG technical support is a non event, customer care from LG is devoid of any customer care IMO, the appliances are ok though.

    Re: LG Washer dryers

    Hi again,

Thanks for all your comments. I see that even the hint of Bosch criticism gets quickly rebuffed! I am sure they are great machines it’s just that they are a little out of my price range. There is one available at the moment which is inexpensive but it has only 2 spin speeds (600 and 1200) and only a 5kg wet 2.5kg dry capacity. Just seemed a bit small and a bit too basic. No other features at all. But maybe I should go for this (they are typically around only £399) after all what other speeds do I really need and as I live on my own I could probably cope with this drum size…. Otherwise I am leaning towards a Zanussi 1471, 6kg/5kg 1400 spin which is around £400 too. Or… John Lewis have their own make (Electrolux/Zanussi again I know) for £499 with a 3 year free guarantee or they do an AEG for £499 with the same specs more or less and 2 year guarantee.
Looking round the internet the only customer reviews I could see for LG involved discussions of awful customer service which is a shame as I thought it looked like a great machine.
Any more thoughts would be welcome on this matter, basically would you tend to recommend a bottom of the range Bosch against a half decent £400-£420 Zanussi?

Thanks again, I really appreciate your comments.

    Dan.

    Re: LG Washer dryers

Ok, listen carefully, we say ziz only once. Washer dryers in general are adequate washers and poor dryers in comparison to a stand alone tumble dryer. The drum is too small to allow the clothes to fly properly and thus allow the hot air to move through the load easily.

If you are intending to purchase the machine for family use, it’ll drive you nuts. 1.5 hrs for the wash. 1.5 hrs for half a load to dry. 1.5hrs for the other half a load to dry – 4.5 hrs to process 1 load of washing. Electricity bill horrendous – you will be using energy equivalent to running an electric kettle for 3 hours…………

If you really don’t like the Bosch, go for the Zanussi – the dryer works reasonably well. Don’t be seduced by spin speed, you gain nothing over 1200 rpm except spanking the components in the appliance even harder.

Just bear in mind that the combi machines are a compromise, extremely complex and a bit of a pig in a poke.

OK OK no more questions. I appreciate what you’ve said.

I think I will scrape around for the extra Bosch dosh given all your comments. Worth it if it means less bother in the future.

Happy New Year and enjoy your Bosch commision cheques arriving soon no doubt…

I wish it were true. This site is owned, run and maintained by the UK’s independent repairers. We receive no support or help from any manufacturer, and the advice which we freely give out to all posters is just that – independent. Given that between us we maintain all appliances of all makes, we have various informed opinions with regard to all makes. We try to give honest opinions, for your and our future benefit. If I may be blunt, if your Bosch goes wrong in a few years time, you will have a far higher chance of finding an independent repairer to solve the problem than if you go for the LG. We will also have technical support and easy spares availibilty from multiple sources at a sensible price.

    Regards,
    Penguin45.
