LG Washer WM 1485FHD – blocked dispenser drawer

I have a LG washing machine Model: WM-1485FHD but regularly get a problem with the conditioner in the centre of the dispenser drawer not dispensing.
The cause seems to be a build up of black gunge in the drawer and in particular on the top where the holes are. I have taken the top off and cleaned the drawer thoroughly which cures the problem but a couple of months later and the gunge builds up again.

Is there a design fault with the drawer unit?
Can I do anything to stop it happening so often.

tbh what you are getting affects all washing machines on the market, what you get is normal from water bugs etc, and I am not aware of a prevention solution.

you might be reluctant to have ice from a pub with some automated ice cube makers as they suffer from the same problem.
