Hi guys I am a newbie here. I have a question relating to an LG direct drive washing machine(WM 1280FHD) I boughta bout 3 1/2 years ago. Unfortunately it no longer spins so i am stuck with lots of very wet washing.I got a locla engineer pout and he told me it need a new “board” some sort of computer that dictates the programme i guess. He said it wouldn be worth changing as they are very expensive. I subsequently spoke to LG and they told me their machines are rather specailist items which needed to be serviced by engineers acreditted by them. I guess they must be roaming ones not actually based in one town.I notice none of the local chaps mention LG as one of the machines they service. Anyway i am in a quandary. Is it worth me getting it repaired or do I buy new?My wife seems to favour another LG for some reason( quite I guess) but I am not sure thats a sensible option . Should I opt for another make Bosch AEG perhaps or got cheap as I used to with Indesit. Would appreciate your advise. . Oh the Warranty . Sadly I lost the original receipt and cant remember who i bought it from ( internet site – something to do with a scottish water company I think)and LG require verification. Thanks
I forgot to add I live in a very hard water area and my kitchen floor is uneven which makes getting the LG level awkward to say the least

    Re: LG washing machine

LG printed circuit boards fail regularly. Repair to the board is often impractical due to the board being “potted” in resin. However, the manual states that wiring and connectors should be checked, as well as continuity through the windings. The machines are not particularly complex, just different.

When they sort out the drum bearing problem, it’ll be a decent machine.

In the meantime…… Bosch is good, our own ISE appliance is a good choice, with a unique service package. Just bear in mind that the old adage of “You get what you pay for” has never been so true.

Thanks for the reply. i was very tempted by that machine but as i live in area which is not covered by your list of agents, the nearest being up in birmingham, according the gentleman I spoke to on the phone, I thought it prudent to buy a Bosch WAE 24162 as they seem to be well supported here with plenty of spares. If IES grows bigger I’ll certainly consider them in future as i like the idea of well made products that last a long time and can be readily serviced. Maybe IES might consider selling other products of a similar robustness as well
    many thanks for the advice
