Participantmaking a rough sounding noise when direct drive motor turns..
when you turn drum by hand the drum bearing sounds perfect,
i think theres a problem with direct drive motor.

ON SLOW TUMBLE THE DIRECT DRIVE MACHINES DO MAKE LIKE A GROWNING RUBBING TYPE NOISE, EVEN AFTER REPLACING ALL BITS ETC.

Participantlook at the cosole module there is a big capacitor on the board they blow. the top of the cap will be mishaped.m

ParticipantRe: LG WASHINGMACHINE WM1480FHD
does this cause noise from the direct drive motor ??
allyMarch 23, 2007 at 7:47 am #208555machineman
Participantyes, it seems that the motor is noisy or the bearing is rough but check that capacitor closely and you will see it is out of shape.m

Participantit will spin but erratically hence the noise from the motor. stick a big load in and see if it still spins.m

cheers,
this is a call about 25 miles away..
we thought insurance would rite-off, but it has a £400.00 limit,my prob is dont have the time to go back and re-check..
would idealy like to go back with parts..to solve..
it does sound like erratic spin/module fault after you mentioned about capacitor..
any idea of part no/price ??
thanks allyMarch 23, 2007 at 9:18 am #208559machineman
Participantpart No 6871ec1077h £68 trade £124 retail, the one i saw had the cap in the console but yours looks to be on main board.m

Hi Ally,
the part number for the main pcb given by M/Man is correct, however i have not come across this capacitor problem before, the only large capacitor on the main pcb is for smoothing purposes and watch out it holds a big charge if you connect yourself to the wrong terminals on the pcb, the only time i have have vibration on an LG motor it was the motor its self, look for corosion on the motor connecter caused by leaking drum bearing seal, or simply a loose motor mounting bolt.M/Man how many pcbs have you come across with this fault and is it the large smoothing capacitor you are talking about.
Bob.
ps
ally you have a PM. -
