LG WD-1243FH bearing change.

Serial number 908KW00052.
This machine requires new main drum bearings. Can you tell me the way to go about it on this WD-1243FH model (drum out from top or front)? Also what will I need in addition to the new bearings and bearing water seal? Any other tips? Many thanks.

Two types of tub construct……… If you’re lucky, you’ll have a tub with a ring of clips around the front plate. This can be removed with the tub in situ and the job’s a doddle if you are confident using a seriously large hammer and drift.

If you’re unlucky….. The tub will have a ring of bolts around the centre line of the tub. Tub has to come out through the top of the casing and be split, after that, it’s fun time with the hammer again. Diagrams of hoses, suspension and wiring are essential – there is no tech support available.

Otherwise, check the condition of the shaft very carefully for gouges and marks. If it’s damaged, the drum support is very expensive and you may need to reconsider what you are doing.

Power off at all times, of course.

Thanks. I was lucky, have got the shaft and drum out the front using a big hammer (alot). Just got to get the bearings out the tub now. They have metal shields on them, would it be better to replace with ones that have rubber seals to keep the water out? Thanks again.

Fitting “ZR” bearings may help, but consider that the crucial component is the water seal itself – this must stop any water getting through to the bearings.
