LG WD12311RD direct drive washer drier.

Reported fault:- loud bang and the machine trips the electric everytime it is plugged in. (didn’t pop the fuse in the plug).
Checked everything with an insulation meter – elements, stator, drier parts…all OK. 😕 So I tried the machine on my PAT tester. Earth and insulation readings were fine; but when I went to start the function test, the display on my PAT said “Load too great, do you want to continue?” Obviously I declined……. 😯

My thoughts are the main inverter board is at fault, anyone had this problem? I cannot see a fault as the board is encased in resin. Fascia PCB or Main PCB? Also I am intrigued why the PAT tester gave that “Load too great” result. Morbid curiousity……. 😀

    Any help please!!

    Steve.

look at the large smoothing capacitor on the pcb i bet its all but just about to explode, had this a few times, a what a good man who uses his pat tester corrrectly. the capacitor is more than likely short curcuit.

    Thanks, Bob!

Come to think of it – the large capacitor had the outer coloured plastic covering peeling; but the unit seemed intact. So it’s PCB time then?

    Cheers,

Maybe you could cut away into the plastic of the uF until you came to the legs and then solder a new uF to them leaving long legs (insulated of course). It would save you investing in a new board and then finding there were other faults caused by all those bangs.
