Had great advice a few months ago about fixing my Siemens dishwasher, so hoping someone can help with this too.

This machine has 2 small blue illuminated LCD displays showing spin speeds, time remaining, delay time etc. The left one started to flicker a while ago and now there is no backlight at all, although the LCD itself still works. Machine works fine – problem is that this display helps you set the delay time, and it’s now almost impossible to see.

Haven’t pulled the machine out yet as it’s heavy and awkward to move from where it is, so thought I’d try to get some advice first.

    Serial number: 509KWCF00083

    Any suggestions ?

    Many thanks in advance.

LCD ( liquid crystal display ) is by design a dark display, think about the old calculators, in poor light you couldn’t see them. The display in your machine’s the same. to overcome this problem the display modules are ” backlit ” by small bulbs to make it easier to read. In your case it’ll be one of two faults, 1- the bulb has burnt out in which case you need to replace the display module or 2- there’s dry solder joints on the module so the bulbs aren’t getting a feed. If your tech knowlage is up to it it’d be worth taking it out and resoldering any dodgey looking contacts if not its back to replace the display module.

Thanks for your reply. I was assuming this has an LED device to illuminate it, rather than a bulb. Was hoping someone who has worked on these machines would be able to tell me how to access this module, and whether the illumination is a separate device and can be purchased separately, or whether it is a complete (and possibly expensive) module replacement. 🙁

As it was flickering before it failed completely, but the LCD display itself is working OK I guess it could be just a loose connection. The machine is difficult to haul out though, so really didn’t want to do that without having a bit of expert advice on whether it’s likely to be a simple fix for an amateur.

Thanks to anyone who can help.
