ParticipantHi all
We’ve had the above LG silver 7KG washer now for approx 6 years and it now appears that the drum bearings are knackered. It’s very noisy/grindy when on spin. Can anyone help with spares and is this a repair I could tackle myself I’m a domestic/commercial heating engineer. I carried out a repair and fault diagnosis to our Samsung side by side fridge/freezer a couple of years ago with some expert guidance and spares from Dave Conway:-)
help appreciated
regards
Graham

From this post it implys you are of a reasonably practical nature. but in case its been overlooked can i ask that you have checkede for bra-underwires?
if this isnt the cause give lg a call cos most of their drums are covered for 10 years. i know it doesnt say specifically that it covers bearings but when they say the DD system reduces wear on bearings it could be construed as including bearing wear in the guarantee 😛

Hi Thanks for your reply gandh1
I spoke to LG previously who told me the motor is covered and also the drum, but surprise, surprise the bearings and seals are not 👿
I ordered the bearings and drum seal from here yesterday and to my amazement the postie knocked the door 15mins ago with the parts 😀
Thanks UKW for an excellent delivery service.
Now if only someone could send me a PDF doc to show me fitting procedures 😆
I’m gonna get my tools, drifts and pulley drawers out later maybe.
Regards
Graham 🙂

Hi all
Decided to fit my new parts yesterday.
It required a total strip down with removal of the drum and the tub separating.
The whole job took me approx 4 hours and is now running sweet and purring like a kitten.
The only thing I can criticise is the tub seal which appears to be oversized and very difficult to fit/squeeze into the groove in the edge of the tub. I even greased it to try and get it to fit!
We’re very happy at this end and have saved a fortune.
I’d say only ever attempt this if you are competent to do so and have the correct tools 😉
Cheers UKW
Graham 😀

glad to hear it! keep us posted on the long term reliability of the repair – i know some diy hotpoint bearing repairs can last as little as 18 months so if you have any porblems please do post on here, if only as to a warning for others, and likewise if you have no problems at all over the course of the next 2-6 years!!
