Hi people. My washing machine has developed a fault. After starting any wash cycle it is registering error code LE after a couple of minutes. The drum turns freely and silently by hand, but sounds a bit noisy when turned by the motor. Also just before it goes into error mode there is a faint whistling type sound which seems to be coming from the rotor, and the drum appears to lock in one position. I have visibly checked the wiring harness as best I can, and cannot find any obvious problems. I suspect it may well be the stator which needs replacing, but would welcome a second opinion before parting with any hard earned cash.
best regards, and thanks in advance.

LG washing machine fault codes are here:

LE would indicate a door lock fault or, in that general area.
The door lock being faulty is pretty common on those washing machines and it should be this door lock that’s used:

Thanks for the quick reply KWATT. Is it normal for the cycle to start before registering an error if the interlock is faulty?

The story so far………..
I’m afraid I didn’t believe it was the door lock. There are a couple of forums on the web, admittedly in the USA, but describe my symptoms perfectly, and as Bob Hope posted, this is in the motion sensor area. This is what I did…..
removed the rotor and stator and metered the stator for resistance which appeared to be ok to my untrained eye. Popped the motion sensor out of it’s mounting and wiggled it all around. Put it all back together, rotated the drum 4 turns one way and then 4 turns the other. Wiggled the motor and motion sensor plugs on the PCB and then powered it up. Despite being unplugged and apart for 24hrs it went straight back into the programme it had been on before (rinse and spin) and was behaving in exactly the same way and sounding WRONG. I cleared the programme, did the pump out thing and restarted the machine on the rinse and spin prog and it worked perfectly.
Have done 2 complete washes now and it’s still working. As for the ACTUAL cause, I’m not sure. If I had to guess, then I’d say that the motion sensor had moved slightly in it’s mount, and I replaced it in the correct position, if it’s not that, then it must be a poor connection which improved once disturbed. Obviously if any of the components were faulty then it wouldn’t be working now. If it does happen again I will replace the motion sensor, in one way or another I am totally convinced he is the culprit.
Thanks again for your responses, Phil -
