ParticipantMy previous 3 year old Whirlpool AWM8163/3 was written off due to the cost of replacing the drum and bearings, so through the insurance I chose LG WM14440tds. Looks pretty, has a cute beep at the end but is a monster during the spin cycle! Been told that that it might be due to the front panel being out of alignment so it rattles noisily.
So back to the drawing board. I’m limited to what I have at Comet only. I found today that the LG machines from Comet are serviced by Comet for the 2 year warranty period as they sell back the warranty to LG. Has anyone got an LG steam washer and is it really noisy/banging during the spin cycle? Not sure whether to just go for a straight replacement or another brand/model. I was thinking of the latest Whirlpool AWO/D AS148 or the Bosch WAS32466GB…although I’ve read it has sensitive buttons and beeps till it’s opened which might be a little annoying! Any opinions on these machines or anything else welcome. Thanks 🙂November 25, 2007 at 8:14 am #234964goose-62

Hi,
I’ve just bought the LG WM16336FD washing machine, this is our second LG 1600spin Direct Drive machine .
We had the first one for 4 and a half years and was on twice a day every day for all of that time, we decided to sell it on when the drum bearings started to get a bit worn and noisy. We never had any problems with it and it was still going strong when we sold it . We were so impressed with this machine we bought another .
As for being ‘ a monster during the spin cycle !’ I fully agree they are very effective machines in this department especially with direct drive motor .
As for vibration, we had the added problem in the kitchen of having a suspended floor, but I came up with a very effective and simple solution which you may find helpful .
As our washer is slotted into a gap underneath the kitchen worktop all I did to make the washer sit more firmly on the floor was, I screwed the feet down as far as they would go, so it sat as close to the floor as possible, then I bought a firm piece of flame retardent foam from the local market, cut it into managable squares (about 6″x6″ in my case) and pushed them into gap between the top of the washer and the underside of the worktop ! It works a treat !
Just make sure the foam is quite a bit thicker than the gap so it’s a real tight fit (I had to push my foam in with a long wooden spoon) .
I hope this is a workable solution for you as the LG DD’s are brilliant washing machines .

There are better machines for the same price that don’t need foam padding. :rolls:
Have a read of this. http://tinyurl.com/zez8h

I do find the use of the word ‘better’ very vague . 😐
Also, I wasn’t recommending a particular model, I was suggesting a solution to a vibration problem currently being experienced with an existing machine . :rolls:
As for using foam padding, this is a more effective and cheaper alternative to using cupped rubber feet as suggested by many manufacturers to solve vibration issues, and one I have used in the past with a Zanussi, Indesit, and Candy machines.
So it’s not a matter of having a ‘better’ model, it’s just a possible solution to having a vibrating washing machine because of a laminated, suspended floor or other reasons. 💡

To clarify.
better (COMPARATIVE OF GOOD)
adjective
Of a higher standard, or more suitable, pleasing or effective than other thingsIf you read the first post again you will see that the OP did ask for opinions on LG which I gave.
The LG in particular has a reputation for serious bouncing on certain floors that other, far superior, similarly priced machines do not suffer from to the same extent as the LG machines.
The Bosch machine he mentions is just one of them.
Jim.

Hi there
Thanks very much for your replies. The suggestion about stopping vibration is going to come in very handy indeed, thanks goose-62.:D After speaking to the manager at Comet he told me I had to have another one the same anyway, otherwise it would have to be referred through the insurance company which provided me with this one. I do really like the LG machine apart from the vibration and I happen to have some spare foam so will be shoving some in between my worktop and machine when it arrives (hopefully tomorrow!). In the past I’ve been shoving bits of rolled up carpet between the gap!
Will definitely be getting the machine insured again through Domestic & General so I’m covered if anything does go wrong.

Yay new LG machine arrived 7.30am and it’s much better now I don’t have one with a dodgy panel. Got the foam in place and some rolled up carpet for good measure! 😆 Seems to have done the trick. Thanks 😀

ParticipantWow 15 years and my LG WM14440TDS is still going strong! Hope if it ever does die I can get another just as reliable.
