The alarm has been going off intermittently for a couple of days (four beeps which I think means a sensor has gone haywire?). The green LED is showing 5 + flashing 5.

Today the fridge isn’t cold enough (freezer fine) so I reckon it’s probably the fridge sensor that’s not working properly?

Assuming my detective work so far is correct, please can you tell me the correct part number for a new fridge sensor.

    thank you 🙂

Hello, the sensor for the fridge evaporator is 9590084 and the freezer evaporator sensor is 9590142, although I’m not saying you definitely do have a sensor fault.
4 beeps is a temperature alarm indication and it’s for the freezer.
I think the appliance has to be looked at as a whole in order to get a better view of where the fault lies.
If you do actually have a sensor fault, then it’s likely to be the fridge one that is at fault.

Well engineer came and my 5year 2 week old Liebherr CUN 1913 is unrepairable. Apparently the evaporator in the fridge has sprung a leak. (For any one else reading this and looking for fault help, the back fridge wall has gone all spongy, which is apparently the tell-tale sign)

Phoned Liebherr “customer service” this morning and was told “sorry, tough”. So much for their claim to make quality appliances that last for years.
DO NOT BY LIEBHERR they are seriously not worth the money.

I suppose the only saving grace is I didn’t buy a 5 year extended warranty, then I would have been seriously p’d off!

(No I wasn’t expecting them to replace my FF, but I would have thought from such a “quality” brand that they might have offered me some discount on a new one.)

Oh dear. Had you taken out the 5 yr you would have been offered to extend yearly. No product is built to be problem free, cars are a good example. The issue with warranties is thanks to consumer programmes who fail to inform of the benefits you’d likely have a replacement fridge. I constantly hear people complaining of faults on appliances, they have components that wear with use and need replacing, unfortunately consumers don’t like fridges with exposed pipework, therefore issues occur. You also have to be aware that when you bought the appliance or any product nobody would have stated it would last forever, assuming it would is a mistake.

You miss the point lee8, I know components can fail in any brand, even supposedly quality brands. I was fine (I won’t say happy!) with paying for new parts and the engineer’s time. The point is it is NOT REPAIRABLE.

I also doubt anyone would be happy being told a 5yo supposedly top of the range car was unrepairable either! (excluding accidents etc of course).

    Their brochure claims:
    “Premium product quality
To ensure the renowned Liebherr quality, only first class components are used. For example, accurate electronic control systems are used in conjunction with optimised refrigeration components. During the manufacturing process the appliances undergo comprehensive testing and inspection to ensure perfect workmanship and flawless functionality. This means Liebherr appliances have a long service life.”

5 years is not an acceptable lifespan for what is supposedly a “renowned quality” brand, nor can it be considered “long”. (and certainly no where near the “forever” you claim I was expecting.)

Needless to say we won’t be spending another £900 on a new Leibherr! Their quality and customer service does not live up to their hype.

    Rant over…

I have know cars to be unrepairable, even at 5 yrs, just visit any scrap dealer. As l stated it’s not possible to make a commercially viable product with access to that area.

Did the engineer place any test equipment to the system? Or simply press the wall, which may have been soft from day one and not actually the fault.

Insulation failures are repairable, you simply remove the old insulation by digging it out via the rear. Gaffer tape a sheet of perspex and purchase via a chemical company the expandable foam, poor into cavity and seal. Did it monthly on Hotpot Ice Diamond fridge freezers which had poor insulation failure on the base, obvious by a lump of ice under unit, although took an hour longer due to removal of compressor and turning unit upside down.

So your unit is not unrepairable, you just need to find a company that can do it. Manufacturer won’t have the facility to do it.

Expensive products don’t necessarily last longer than cheap products, their aimed at people who don’t have issue with money. A bit like Ferrari’s anybody who has owned one knows how impractical, unreliable and uncomfortable they are, yet they still spend thousands every few months on servicing. Even Rolls Royce still fit parts from cars most people can afford.

So l would suggest if £900 for a fridge is a lot of money to you go buy one for £300.

You may also want a second opinion on your current product.

Well fortunately for me the Sale of Goods Act and the retailer do not agree with you lee8.

I also contacted the retailer I purchased the fridge from and they didn’t quibble, they were in total agreement that this sort of fault is not acceptable on a 5yo Liebherr and have offered me a good deal on the purchase of the current equivalent model. This is a very reasonable offer on their part, which I am more than happy with. Full kudos to them for their example of excellent customer service (unlike Liebherr themselves). I will be buying all my future appliances from them and recommending them to all my friends. 🙂

    Good result then.

Just goes to show the mark up on that brand and that price does not always reflex longevity.

I look forward to reading the result of your court action for the breach of the Sales of Goods Act, is the retailer going to sue also, after all serious breaches are in this case justified. 😉

Just to finish this tale for anyone reading in the future and wondering about Liebherr.

Following intervention by the UK Liebherr Customer Service Manager (on her return from leave – I obviously picked a bad time to have a faulty appliance!) we now have an even better offer on a new appliance and my faith in the Liebherr brand has been restored. Thank you to everyone who has helped us. 🙂
