Liebherr CN 3956 not cooling

Hi,

My sister-in-law has just moved in to her first house and bought a secondhand Liebherr 3956 fridge/freezer. Turns out, it is broken!

Neither the fridge or freezer get cold. The temperature readouts on the front panel show 18C for the fridge and –C for the freezer. The compressor gets hot to touch, but none of the pipework on the back gets hot (even right next to the compressor). There are no signs that there has been any leaking. Having looked into things a bit, it seems that it’s most likely either the compressor itself, or a lack of refrigerant in the system. Just wondering if anyone out there might have any better ideas, or can suggest anything I can test to try to narrow down the fault? I’m well versed in the use of a multimeter, but no fridge specific knowledge!

Hello, it sounds like you’re on to the cause of the problem here. If the compressor is hot, without any cooling inside the cabinet, then it does point to a system fault.
