Hi,
Long story to follow.
During the recent hot weather, the fridge on my Liebherr 3956 (4.5 years old) was unable to maintain its temperature. After some on/off cycles and adjustments of target temperatures I managed to get the fridge to 5 degrees but then the freezer temperature started to rise.
So I contacted Liebherr UK and they provided me with the local sub-contactor for service.
The only thing he did on the first visit was recharge the coolant (no questions about the problem and no fault diagnosis). When I arrived home the alarm was sounding and I found that the compressor appeared to have siezed. So on his second visit he replaced the compressor. When I arrived home I found the freezer at only -9 and the fridge still unable to cool.
So I left it a little longer and found that the outlet from the compressor had a layer of ice about 1-2 cm in diameter. So I switched off and allowed the ice to melt and then tried again.
The next day the freezer was at -18 but there was now about 3cm of ice on the outlet pipe and the compressor seemed to be running continuously.
So having spent £300 I now have a fridge that still won’t cool and is actually worse that when the engineer arrived.
So my question is what is the likely fault and could I replace a part myself as I will certainly not have that engineer back.
