ParticipantI am looking to buy a new fridge-freezer to replace a Bosch Exxcel KGN39X01. I bought that in 2009 and it has done fairly well, although various drawers, etc. have broken and now it is icing up frequently – a repair guy told me it’s because the defrosting element has burnt out. I suppose 9 years isn’t bad.
I don’t want to spend (much, if at all) over £500. At first I thought the best choice might be the Bosch Classixx KGV39VW32G, which looks similar to my old one with a few improvements (I hope). I particularly like the sound of the “fan-assisted MultiAirflow System [which] causes gentle, even currents of cold air to emerge at all levels of the chilling and freezing area”.
But this forum seems to be very keen about Liebherr. A quick Google revealed a surprising number of really bad reviews – especially from the USA – but it still sounds interesting. Price would be an issue, except for the CN4813 which is on offer at around £450.
Does that mean this model is a low-end cheapo that won’t measure up to the usual Liebherr standards? Or would it be a good buy at the price?
Lastly, I would really welcome any ideas about the choice between the Liebherr CN4813 and the Bosch Classixx KGV39VW32G. Or any other alternatives you think worth a look.

Hi
Liebherr are are regarded the best refrigeration appliances you can get they also produce for Miele as well.
That said it looks like they are trying to invade the mid to upper range price points to increase market share. They have also done this with a small range of under counter refrigeration competing with the likes of Hotpoint etc.
I would say the Liebherr is still a good bet comparing to Bosch or anything else. Will it last longer? Who knows only time will tell.

Thanks a lot for your quick and helpful reply, Don.
There seems to be a big price spread in Liebherr models. As I said, the CN4813 is on offer for about £450 – which I can afford – but if I look at Currys (for instance), most of the Liebherrs are up around £1,000 or more.
Is there an obvious difference between the CN4813 and the much more expensive models, or is it likely to be just ice water dispensers and clever computer software? (As I work in software, I have a fairly sceptical view of such features, as they often go wrong).

I was thinking about this very thing after I posted. The only way would be to physically see them to be sure.
