ParticipantHello.
Our fridge has recently decided to play up and is not as cool as usual, despite the temp set to 5. We are now getting 4 warning beeps, intermittently. The alarm light is flashing red and the right hand side green LED is also flashing.
I have checked the channel at the back of the fridge is clear and also looked at the back of the fridge for any obvious signs of damage etc.
The freezer is behaving itself.
The unit is about 10 years old. Service number is 0981098-01.SN 264712787.
If its maybe a sensor, I am happy to have a go replacing them, if they are easily accessible.
Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you
Regards

ParticipantYou have a high temperature alarm ( 4 beeps ) and red alarm light, also flashing set temperature block flashing indicates fridge is also not cold enough.
Remove freezer drawers and check you have no frost or ice on the rear panel, if so a full defrost will be required, food out and turned off for several days with freezer door open.
Other than that, no other options than an Engineers visit.February 3, 2022 at 8:08 pm #480934Brendarran
ParticipantBefore you call out an engineer. Turn off and leave doors open for at least 24 hours (longer if the room is cold). Put towels in the bottom of the freezer to soak up any water. Turn it back on again and see what happens. If the compressor runs constantly but doesn’t get cold, it’s a refrigerant system issue. This is usually more costly to sort than buying a new appliance. If the compressor doesn’t start up in the first 5 minutes, or it starts but then keeps turning off, then it may be a relay or thermostat issue which may be repairable.

ParticipantMany thanks for both the advice, its much appreciated, thank you.
I removed the freezer drawers there was no ice on the rear panel, but a bit of frost. However there was a large chunk of flat ice under the drawer which I removed.
I will try the 24 hour turn off and check if the compressor then runs constantly (I guess I will just hear a continuous whirring rather than sporadic silence).February 4, 2022 at 7:49 pm #480936Tony R
Participant24 hours may not be long enough, ice on the floor under the bottom drawer is a sympton of the freezer drain being blocked.
In my experience the ice can be up to an inch thick in some cases and if not cleared completley, you will have the same fault and think there is something else wrong with the unit, my 22 years as a Liebherr Engineer is worth considering when advise is offered.February 4, 2022 at 11:13 pm #480937Yoghurt007
ParticipantThank you Tony,
I will leave it off for 2 days and see how it goesFebruary 5, 2022 at 5:06 pm #480938Tony R
ParticipantIf you are able to remove the rear cover, you will see the ice and after a couple of days, you can hook out the remaining block to ensure it is completely free of ice. and pour some boiling water down the drain hole.
