ParticipantHello.
I’m hoping someone might be able to give me some help with my fridge-freezer (Liebherr ICBN 3056).
I’ve looked at a lot of stuff online, including YouTube vids but am still a little confused. The fridge-freezer is about 10 years old. Over the last few months the fridge has gone through a few periods of failing to cool. It has always sorted itself out after switching off the appliance for a short while (~ half hour).
But now the fridge will not resume cooling. The freezer has always worked perfectly.
I’ve been hoping I can rule out any easy-to-fix issues before calling someone out.
I’ve tried taking the back panel off both the fridge and freezer, as after researching this, it sounded like there might be a problem with the freezer evaporator heater.
It all looked fine. Fans were running. Evaporator didn’t look particularly frozen.
However, the fridge has a fan at the top of the back panel. After taking the panel off, it was clear that there is nothing behind the fan, which surprised me. I was expecting to see a duct of some sort where cold air might come in from the freezer. But no – it looks like the fan just circulates the air already in the fridge. So more than anything, I’m now confused about how the fridge actually cools!
Which doesn’t give me much chance of working out what might be wrong. The only “hole” in the fridge seems to be the small drain. So does it cool by cooling the inside surface of the fridge plastic somehow?Note that it’s an integrated fridge freezer so I’m trying to avoid taking the whole unit out.
Any help/guidance would be most appreciated.

ParticipantFridge section has 3 sensors, Air, Evaporator and Bio Fresh, each controls various functions in the fridge, go to Liebherrs website and find an approved Engineer in your location or call them.

ParticipantThanks for the reply and I will no doubt need to call an engineer.
However, I would also like to better understand how it works.
As I say, I’ve found the evaporator coils behind the back of the freezer.
But I can’t see any coils behind the fridge back, and I can’t see any way of getting air from the freezer into the fridge.
So although I understand how all the fridges on the internet cool, I can’t work out how my fridge cools because it doesn’t seem to have thesame setup!

ParticipantThe fridge has its own cooling plate evaporator behind the insulated panel in the fridge, there is a fan mounted in the top of the panel, depending on activation of the sensors the compressor will switch on / off and the valve will open / close to allow refrigerant to cool the evaporator down or defrost the evaporator, the fan is controlled by a sensor and door closure.
