Liebherr fridge/freezer KDNves4642 problem

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help. My Liebherr frost free fridge/freezer is now around 9 – 10 years old. Last year I needed to defrost it as the area immediately behind and below the freezer compartment walls had iced over. Everything was then okay until around 2 months ago when I went to get something from the freezer and found it to be warm inside and everything was defrosted (the fridge compartment whilst not exactly cold was a lot cooler than the freezer compartment. I turned the appliance off for 3 – 4 hours and when I plugged it back in it worked okay, for a few weeks, then the same thing happened again. I got it working again but this time only for 4 or 5 days before it stopped again. Again I got it working again but I had to leave it off for around 15 hours. It stopped working again yesterday and I have not been able to get it working again.
Does anyone have any idea what it might be and how much it might cost to get repaired (is it something I could do myself even (I have a pretty good toolbox)) etc? I live in Isleworth, Middlesex (West London). The Service No. of the appliance is 0913671-00 and the Index is 24/147.

Hi

It sounds like either one of the sensors or the defrost heater has failed.

Hi Bryan,

Thanks for your reply. I sent an email to your services email address first thing Monday morning and followed it up by completing the form on the website’s booking page but have not heard anything back yet. My postcode, TW7, is not listed in the areas that you cover so maybe that is why I haven’t heard anything?

Luckily, when I tried turning the fridge/freezer on again first thing Saturday morning, after 5 minutes it started working. It is still working at the moment but I expect it to stop sometime tomorrow, as the last two times that it stopped and I got it working again it only worked for between 4 – 5 days.

Hello. The fridge/freezer now seems to have packed up for good. It started to work for longer periods before stopping, eg 10 days then 12 days, but now I can’t get it working again. When I turn it on the interior light comes on in the fridge but that is about it, and if I leave it on for some time the freezer compartment gets warm.

Am I going to be able to get it fixed for a reasonable price, does anyone know (are the parts still available)? At the moment it’s standing there looking very nice but not doing anything 🙁

hello tina, the parts are still available and the appliance should still be worth a repair.
have you tried the engineer search facility on site?

at moment food now in conservatory where it is cold!

as a quick followup…..checked this out by isolating the thermostat and with a multimeter showed the problem to be a thermostat failure……ordered a replacement (around £75)….replaced like for like……….good as new…..in fact better than new as the original thermostat vacuum tube was crinked at the thermostat connection and couldn’t have been operating properly….
