ParticipantLiebherr Fridge Freezer temperatures not as low as electronic display indicates – unable to maintain low enough temperature to freeze anything, even set to -22 degrees and with fast freeze on(though cold enough to keep already frozen food solid) and fridge not ‘hot’ but not really cool even on 1 degree (milk has gone-off).
I have made initial enquiries about repair but trying to get an idea of the problem before I proceed, to help decide if worth the call-out charge.
Through reading on-line, I am wondering if it is a problem with the sensor. The fridge freezer is about 2 1/2 years old, so unfortunately out of warranty.
Liebherr service number: 998964-04
model: CNP 3913
serial number: 29.592.112.7Thank you in advance for any information.

hello, before you go down the sensor route, it’s worth checking the drain hole in the freezer – that’s more likely to be your problem.
a blocked drain hole would see the water that is the product of the regular defrosting cycle of the freezer, not drain away and therefore in due process become ice.
this ice would build up over a short period of time and eventually block the airflow through the evaporator that the freezer depends on for it’s cooling.
the freezer would take precedence over the fridge in this case and so the electronics in the appliance would be telling it that it wasn’t cold enough in the freezer and so the fridge compartment wouldn’t be receiving refrigerant via the diverter valve.
this is the more likely scenario.August 15, 2015 at 9:51 am #429573suttonteacher

Thank you for the reply, ELDAR59. I have someone coming out to see it today, so hopefully it will be a quick fix. (I can see the drain hole in the fridge and that looks fine:I don’t feel qualified to investigate further.)

Update. Your analysis appears to be accurate, thank you ELDAR59. It would appear that the pipe is probably frozen. I have been told to take the food out of the freezer, defrost for 24 hours then switch back on and test freezing ability using water and a piece of bread.(I had not noticed initially, that the inside back of the freezer had ice on it towards the bottom.) Let’s hope that works, otherwise it is onto the next step: sensor then compressor.
I wish I had posted on here earlier, I could have tried thoroughly defrosting the freezer before paying the call-out fee. Oh well, we live and learn and maybe this post will be of use to others, like me, who do no have a clue. 🙂August 16, 2015 at 9:39 am #429575ELDAR59

Hello, glad to have been of help.
A couple of things concern me re your last post though.
Firstly, defrosting for 24 hours may not be enough. We’d always defrost the appliance ourselves and make sure it was working perfectly before leaving. Advising you to defrost is a bit of a cop out to be honest.
Secondly, the appliance isn’t designed to cope with the amount of water that will present itself now after defrosting. You’ll have to watch out for that and a tip would be to put a towel or cloth into the pot that sits on top of the compressor and leave the other end in a bowl. Otherwise, the pot will possibly overflow and potentially cause damage to your flooring, or even the appliance itself.Cheers.

Thanks ELDAR59, it did not overflow but I will empty some of it out. The machine appears to be working perfectly fine now, though I will be keeping a close eye on it!
I wish I had spoken to you before I paid for the call-out but hopefully this will help others 🙂 -
