Liebherr fridge freezing food & liquids

What a terrific web-site this is…..many thanks to all involved.

We have a fridge freezing food problem with our :-
Liebherr Fridge Freezer SKBes4212 (side by side),
Service no. 0979012-00
Serial no. 25.484.305.7.

It started with salad freezing in the BioFreshPlus draw but now ‘the big freeze’ has spread to food and liquid on the shelves & in the door.

There are two vents on the back wall behind the draws but only one seems to be operating….would this have anything to do with our freezing problem?

We’re happy to attempt the repair job ourselves but need help to identify the cause of the problem. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Whooops……forgot to mention that the fridge temperature on control panel fluctuates between 2-6 degrees.

I emailed 3 local fridge engineers over a week ago & neither have replied…. already called Liebherr who gave me three other phone numbers…..
…thought I’d have ago at fixing the problem myself.

I’m really really disappointed with Leibherr, I expected better quality.
Do Liebherr do deals?

A LIEBHERR is not a DIY job to repair and normally very reliable.

The problem you have can be caused by a few things and is hard to advise without testing it.

On a LIEBHERR the most common fault is the Fridge evaporator probe, but the fault you have could be caused by low refrigerant.

If the motor at the back for the fridge side is running hot this would point to low refrigerant.

If the motor is cold or only warm then the refrigerant should be ok.

You will also need to check the fan in the fridge is working.

The fan stops when you open the door but if you look at the fan as soon as you open the door if it is working you will see it slowing down ( Please note the fan only runs when the compressor is running )

If the motor or fan do not seem to be the problem then it is most likely the probe.

The side by side has 3 individual vents and 6 sensors and 3 PCb’s . They can’t be treated like the top mount F/F’s

…..we’re in Staffordshire.

Checking out the sales/manual info we received, the side by side was coded as SBSes 7273 (the info I quoted previously was taken from the fridge only).

After an earlier investigation, I know where 4 sensors & 2 vents are located and have spent this morning emptying the fridge freezer to position it so we can access the back….the motor to the fridge is cool while the motor to the freezer is warm.

Researching the web (dangerous I know & doesn’t make us experts), I’m thinking the problem is possibly the sensors while hubby thinks it could be the control panel………..what a way to spend Easter Sunday.

I have not come across this model yet only seen pictures.
I have come across the single built in unit with 6 sensors freezing and the fault was the bottom evaporator sensor faulty.

Looking at the pictures it looked a bit like the AEG bolted together separate fridge and freezer with a single control panel making it look as one unit American Style.

Normally. When I go to a model I have not seen I can work out the most likely fault by just looking at how it is freezing or not freezing,

I then test the sensors, thermal fuses,fan motors, heater, system fault etc in the order I think is causing the problem until I find the faulty part.

Most times I find the fault on the first part I test.

This is the only way sometimes when the manufacturers do not make technical info available.

A lot of the times models sold are more popular in different parts of the country so some models you never see.

As I said in my first post LIEBHERR are not suitable for DIY repair if you do not know how to test each part

As per your advice before trying to repair it is better to contact LIEBHERR direct, but as per previous customers of mine LIEBHERR have not been helpfull once out of warrenty
