ParticipantHow do remove the thermostat from its housing and in particular the slotted plastic temperature dial on the machine front.

ParticipantThe top front fascia panel housing the slot temperature dial has an opaque plastic inner which is fixed by plastic clips. This inner plastic shroud needs to be removed to access the fixing position for the thermostat, which in turn is fixed by a flat nut. The nut can be removed using pin nose pliers. Please note that the plastic slot temperature dial is pushed onto the thermostat spindle and can be removed by a gentle pull.
What I do need help with is how the thermostat wire sensor end is fixed at the rear of the fridge.

ParticipantThere are several versions of that unit on index 001 from 25 to 26D and they are not the same housing.

ParticipantI should have made it clearer in the description of the fridge. My version is 26D.

ParticipantThe thermostat phial will be either pushed into a plastic tube in the top housing, or run through the roof section and inserted through the rear wall, remove the four twist lock studs on the front of the evaporator with a half turn of them and gently ease the evaporator panel out the see the phial inserted into a plastic holder, dont forget to line up the rubber trim on the sides of the evaporator and reassemble in reverse.

ParticipantTony,
Many thanks. I very slightly pulled on the thermostat cable which travels through a channel in the roof section. As it did not release I then realised it must be held at the rear of the fridge. A closer look with my mini torch down the channel confirmed this.

ParticipantTony,
New thermostat installed today, all is well.
Thanks for your help.
These so called appliance engineers who are resident near me don’t touch refrigeration and are limited in what they can do. They don’t know what they don’t know because they don’t know.

ParticipantThat’s because Refrigeration is a specialist trade, which ties us to F-Gas regulations, similar to being Gas Safe, and many a washing machine repairer does not have the knowledge or the qualifications, and why I and mostly all Refrigeration Engineers leave the washing machines and cookers etc to them.

ParticipantOk, understand. The problem in our area is that there are only two companies listed which can carry out refrigeration repairs, one only deals with commercial appliances and the other charges so much to work on domestic appliances because there is no competition. Most people therefore bin their appliances. I am just glad that you were such a great help.
