KeymasterHello
We are about to move into a new flat and the vendor has offered to sell her Siemens kitchen appliances to us. I am trying to work out a fair price.
There is a washing machine, a slimline dishwasher, a fridge and a freezer. They are all 7 years old (I’m afraid I don’t have the model numbers). She is asking £540 for the lot. I am wondering what the lifespan on these appliances might be. I know Siemens is supposed to be a good and rleiable brand. Would we be better off buying new (although we probably couldn’t afford to buy Siemens)?
Any help and advice very gratefully received.
Kay

Sounds a bit steep to me. I would try offering her £400. They are one of the better quality makes but nobody designs domestic appliances to last 20 years these days.

It is hard to generalise on such a product range in your kitchen Kay but most likely they will give many more years good service yet. Siemens are a good reliable product and surprisingly the age of these machines is of no detrement at all, in fact they are a better made product than the current production range, without doubt 😉
So you best hang on to them while you can and never consider replacing them with another brand but take the ‘like for like’ option instead 🙂

Hi kay
Siemens are a good make but at seven years old I would say £400 maximum. As long as they are in good condition and appear to have been well cared for then they should give you a few more good years service.

Except Miele perhaps? 😀
Miele.co.uk wrote:Miele washing machines are designed and tested for 5,000 wash cycles – that’s a life of 15 to 20 years at an average of 5 washes a week.

Thanks for your help!
I will try offering her less and see what happens.

5 washes a week? I did a second bearing change on a 4 year old Zanussi Unicycle today. The customer says she does about 6 loads a day!

…and she was using the unicycle for getting to the laundrette? That would be a picture for the photo gallery, and 6 times a day, I bet she was fit!! 😆
