Does anyone here know the possible cause of this problem?

My wife has an Indesit dish washer (silver one), and she said that she got an electric shock from it. Before I left this morning I had a quick look, and found that the metal part of the casing is at 50volts! This confused me alot because I know the mains if 230volts in this coutry I think. So I pulled out the plug, and put in one of those socket testers with LEds on. It showed that there is no earth on the socket. This has confused me evern more.

Now Im feeling stupid becuase Im at the office and I don’t know the model number, but is this enough information to get some idea of what might be wrong?

You’ve already found the problem, no earth at the socket 😉

Nothing wrong with the dishwasher I doubt, call an electrician to check the house wiring SOON ! :zap:

Praps Im being fick here, but if I connect the earth at the socket, or wherever its not connected), and I intend to do this, but why is the casing voltage already at 50volts?

Surely if I connect the earth the fuse thing will blow? Then I still have a problem to solve?

You get floating mains voltage its usually half mains potential.

all appliances contain interferance suppression which allows a small amount of electricity to flow to earth. normally this flows away harmlessly but if there is no earth you will feel a tingle when the appliance is touched

As a DASA member I have to do all tests which includes EARTH LOOP IMPEDANCE test this would tell you if some thing is wrong with the wireing/socket or the machine.
