Whirlpool washing machine (c1997?) Model 857086915000 SN 419728008702

This continues to work well, helped by new motor brushes from you last year!
A few days ago, after a wash, the door failed to open even though waiting a while after completion (wall plug on or off). The instructions dont seem to give help on a manual release option – can you help?
Clue? – Before starting the wash I had switched it on but after a while power went and I found the wallplug fuse gone. With new fuse, wash proceeded happily.
    Thanks

If the door interlock has failed you will have to apply some brute force to release it.
I usually give it a tap using a socket extension bar and hammer which will release the door catch.
    Power off first!

    Thanks Steve
Is this approach particularly applicable to my old model, being rather less likely to cause permanent damage than for newer models?
(I’m away for a week, before I can try this).
Once opened I suppose there may be an electrical release unit needing fix/replace.

Door lock will need replacing obviously but if you open it up once removed you will be able to tell if the lock itself was the problem.
There is a small ceramic heater inside which makes the bi-metal switch work.
This can break down and cause failure.
