ParticipantHi People.
The Hotpoint washing machine I’ve been looking into buying, appears to be hot and cold but is designed for cold fill because thereβs only a cold fill hose supplied and a Y-piece adaptor supplies both valves.
Can I buy the same kind of hose but longer β , the one’s I’ve seen don’t include the Y piece.
Thanks in advance.

If the machine ‘appears to be hot & cold’ then it will have two valves on the back marked H & C.
If it has then it was not designed for cold fill but has been fitted with a ‘Y’ piece to convert it to fill cold through both hot & cold valves, possibly due to a lack of a hot water supply at its previous installation, ( I’m guessing that this machine is second hand).
If you have a hot & cold water supply then you can connect it to both using two separate pipes.
Longer pipes are readily available at B&Q etc.

It’s brand new, and it’s a cold water machine, it’s got this Y connector hose as previously stated

Has it got two valves on the back. π
It may be a recent innovation, what is the model and serial number number?
If the machine is supplied from new with a single hose then it should not need a Y piece, that is only required to convert a hot & cold fill machine to cold fill only.
If the machine has two cold valves then I would expect the machine to have two hoses, otherwise why supply a Y piece with only a single hose?
However, as I mentioned you can get longer hoses from several places, you only need one Y piece attached to the cold tap, then two hoses from that to the machine.

Participantjim… its the new heater box model
they require two cold fills, as they have the flushing valve…. just fitting the y hose at the back and extending it with a single hose is sufficient
they changed it again, and put the flush on the heater box again
this time, its the indesit box with a filter at the back ( and yet another different eprom)

Much better to just get a single, longer hose, dirt cheap and far less possible leak points.Jim.

He can’t – it’s one hose with a bifurcated end to feed two valves.
