Looking to buy a m/c -advice plz

Hi

I am new user to this forum so apologies if this is not the correct place for this thread..

I am looking to buy a wash m/c – 1400rpm, 6kg upwards, preferably AAA rating ..

my budget is around 180-250 £ and I am not sure what brands or models are good

You need to start at around £350 or even more if possible. At £400 you are coming into good to decent machines.

BSH appliances, Bosch/Neff/Siemens are made to decent standards. some of them available with up to five years warranty, all of them have at least two year warranties.

Even some of the cheaper Bosch machines have the dreaded sealed drum which is to be avoided if at all possible.

I think there is a Seimens machine available for £399 with a five year warranty mentioned in another thread on here, a very good investment TBH.

Hotpoint WMF540P
BOSCH WAA28165
Whirlpool AWOD4605

Plz let us know if any of the above are good and/or are these the ones with the sealed drum..

so does that mean that these can be bought? & do the 2 below models have sealed drum?

BOSCH WAA28165
Whirlpool AWOD4605 (sorry hmm means is it okay? or nope?)

I also came across another Indesit model – INDESIT IWC6145 I guess this will be a nope??

ur help will be appreciated as I have been online all day today and have been going round and round to shortlist one..

Iadom put the bottom line at £350, £300 is not so bad. Personally, I wouldn’t have a current Indesit Company product given, let alone pay money for one.

The Bosch machine listed has a sealed tub, so bearing failure would require a replacement assembly. The Whirlpool I can find no info on. They’ve always been reasonably decent in the middle ground, although the spares pricing policy can often be described as larcenous.

However, I’m a repairer not a retailer, so hang fire ’til the morning. Don will be able to give you a rather more reasoned assessment of machines in your price bracket.

cheers and thnx for your help once again.. I will wait for Don’s reply and then make a decision.. I guess Bosch is out due to the sealed drum . I guess Whirlpool is the current fav … lets see

just spoke to whirlpool CS and aksed re: sealed drum – they said that the drum the bearing and the tub come as a single assembly ans they were unable to understand my ‘sealed drum’ question..does this make sense?

I had to scrap a Whirlpool machine the week before Christmas due to bearing failure in a sealed drum, the machine was 13 months old, price of new drum, over £150.:cry:

When they say the bearing and tub come as a unit they mean it has a sealed drum. :rolls:

The simple reason why the sealed drums are in the cheapo machines is entirly cost driven, they are cheap to produce but from an evironmental viewpoint are an absolute disaster causing vast numbers of very young machines to be scrapped. 😥

You do only get what you pay for, at least the Bosch comes with a 2 year warranty but another £100 gets you the Seimens I linked to, screwed drum and five year warranty. 8)

Bosch WAE series is much better than the WAA ones and no sealed drum either 😉 The Gorenje`s arn`t a bad buy either, they also come with a two year warranty the same as Bosch, your local independant retailer should be able to to offer the best advice.

Don thnx for your advice..unfortunately the local retailers aren’t very helpful they try and sell the current deals and push for sales …

apart from the Bosch WAE series are their any other brand+series that you could suggest (1400rpm spin)…
