ParticipantHi
My washing Machine seems to be having some diffculties, every now and then it makes a loud screeching noise when it goes from short wash to rinse. This sound use to occur more when i first purchased the machine but now it is not happenning so often. This was a second hand machine and the man i purchased it from said i might have got a sock stuck in there somewhere. Everything seems to be working fine its just now and then mabe once a week or even less now, it makes a loud screeching noise for mabe 20 seconds when going from short wash to rinse usually. I was wondering if anyone knew what could be causing this and is this going to effect my machine drammtically in the long run if i dont get this fixed. The screeching is not happening as often now and i can live with it happening now and then but i just want to know if it will effect my machine in the long run and what might be causing this. Thanks.

You didn’t give us the make and model number?
If it’s a Servis it almost certainly will be the pump!

Its a Smart Drive 051, It Doesn’t say what make it is, but it is most likely a Kelvinator.

It’s a Fisher and Paykell appliance. Therefore you are a very long way away and upside down as well. Martin is quite right, your drain pump needs repacing, probably as a matter of some little urgency. Screeching is usually a result of water leaks, so the pump will probably be somewhat rusty when you look underneath. It’s a twist fit – power off before touching anything – the pump is often live so long as the machine is plugged in.
P/no 426719P if you need to order a replacement.
