ParticipantI need to source an LPG gas built under oven and 4 burner hob.
Although I can find gas hobs with LPG conversion kits supplied easily enough it seems much harder to find a gas oven.
First of all, can anyone recommend a good brand? I would ideally like something that will stand up to wear and tear. The stand alone gas cooker I am replacing lasted 19 years and some, but is now on it’s last legs. Some of the hobs I have seen look really flimsy, and I do want cast iron supports. The ONLY hob I have seen so far that looks strong enough is actually a Hoover HGL64SCX seen in Currys. It looks to built like a tank, even the salesman said the other hobs looked puny in comparison, but is it any good?
Now the gas oven. We only have room for a single built under oven and it needs to be LPG gas, as we don’t like electric appliances and have no mains gas. A few by belling and new world are available but they look very tinny. One simple question: can any gas oven be converted to run on LPG gas ? Where might my fitter get the parts? Thanks. Graham

Hi
I think you are going to have to rethink your’e requirements and make a compromise or two.
To my knowledge the only built in single gas ovens as you rightly say are the Belling and New World (same company). While the oven side is gas the grill is fixed electric. As for LPG conversion I don’t think you can convert to LPG although a call to the manufacturers will confirm this.
Hobs are easier, Bosch and Neff gas hobs are about the best without going to mad on price, they also come with the gas jets as standard which your’e Gassafe engineer can fit. The cast iron pan supports are also superb.HTH 🙂

The Hoover OVG505/3 range is a built in single gas oven (both oven and grill are gas) and it compliments the Hoover hob you mention.
Whilst it doesn’t come with the LPG conversion kit actually with it, the conversion kit can be easily purchased which your installer can fit for you.
We regularly service the predecessors to this unit which are 10 plus years old.
They are available in white (add w to the end of the model number) or stainless steel (add x to the model number).
Good luck

Sorry I forgot to answer one if your questions.
Technically yes any gas oven is capable of being converted to/from LPG.
The jets inside the burners have different sized holes in them to allow the different density gas to flow through them and combust with the right amount of air to burn correctly.
The manufacturer should always be able to supply the necessary conversion kit.
They should ALWAYS be fitted by a suitably qualified gas safe engineer whom will be able to confirm the correct combustion is taking place.
Conversion is not something suitable for an unqualified engineer as death can result if not done properly.
Also, some sort of electrical feed will be needed to both the hob and the oven to operate the ignition systems.

Hi Jackal.
Thanks for your reply. I’ll look up the oven tomorrow. Is it also marketed as a Candy brand? I know can get the hob from Currys. I have a qualified Gas Safe engineer on call to fit the appliances, don’t worry ! I’m not goign to risk the lives of me and my family.
This engineer implied that much of Eire/ Ireland does not have mains gas supplies and LPG devices are far more common there so all ovens can be converted. The problem can be finding a suitable kit!
ThanksGraham

Hi Graham
There isn’t a LPG kit listed for the OVG505/3 but I have e-mailed tech to see which if any have a LPG conversion kit available.

Ok thanks. An odd thing has happened since I began this trawl for LPG gas appliances, which is that originally only about 4 gas ovens would show up as LPG compatible ( ie with conversion kit available) Now there are a lot more- see Curry’s UK web site for example which has just been totally revamped. Also as I have had pointed out to me more than once, despite most stockists saying there is no demand for gas ovens, you hardly ever see one of these famous TV chefs cooking on anything but gas, and that includes ovens! Thanks for your help everyone

TV chefs use gas hobs and avoid gas ovens in the TV studio for obvious reasons. In their commercial kitchens however they use gas comprehensively.
