ParticipantI have a fault with my LSI 61 dishwasher which I was hoping you might be able to advise me on?
MODEL: LSI 61 UK/1
COD.37250020000
S/N 109042084
L.5The observed symptoms of the fault are as follows:
1. When a wash cycle is selected the dishwasher now regularly (but not always) stops after ~10 minutes (as the powder door opens?).
2. When the dishwasher door is opened after a failed wash the water is cold, the powder is still evident in door and the water has not drained from the bottom of the machine.
3. After a failed wash the green cycle selection LED is not illuminated at all (normally flashes at the end of cycle and then turns solid when a cycle is selected for the next wash), when the “P” button is pressed the LED illuminates.
4. When a soak cycle is selected the water is pumped away immediately and the soak cycle completes successfully.Comments on the web indicate similar issues have been traced to the water heater or a thermostat? Would you expect this to be the case based on the description above and considering it is an intermittent fault? Is there anything further I can do to diagnose / confirm the root cause of the fault? I see comments around running diagnostic cycles but cannot find out how to select these cycles or interpret any feedback via the 4 leds on the control panel.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Chris.

The ‘tube type’ heaters and the control PCB’s on these Indesit machines are both very common failure points.
Some models of this machine have the large ‘L’ shaped element that is visible inside the tub. This type of element is less likely to have failed.
TBH a heating failure should generate an error code by flashing one or two of the lights.
The first step would be to test the element with a suitable multimeter or meggar.
Access from underneath, mains plug out, loads of towels on the floor and lean onto left hand side ( from front ) or back.

Hi,
Many thanks for the prompt reply.
I can confirm it has the L shaped heater element.
I have run the washer a couple more times and have noticed although the water is not extremely hot the water and the plates etc in the washer are warm.
What we have noticed is that the machine seems to stop every time the washer commands the powder door to open (even if we leave it open you hear a click and the machine stops).
Is this something the diagnostic runs could detect? Could you tell me how to run them?
Currently when the washer stops all 4 LEDs are out on the panel as described in my fist post.
Thanks again for your help and advise.
Chris.

Some progress!
When the solenoid for the powder door is disconnected the dishwasher completes the cycle correctly.
When the solenoid is connected it energises and opens the power door. It then remains energised for 1-2 seconds before the cycle trips out and the washer stops.
All the mechanism appears free and correct.
Do the coils in the solenoids tend to breakdown and the washers trip on an over current?
Can you purchase the solenoid coil as a spare part?
Many thanks
Chris.

The dispenser solenoid is only available with a complete dispenser in most cases.
Faulty solenoids do often have a corrupting effect on the electronics, Smeg are particularly prone to this.
