ParticipantWe have a Liebherr drawer fridge, on which the drawer runners seem very ‘stiff’ – in other words, it requires considerable effort to open, and there is often a rather unpleasant grating sound. The problem is, however, inconsistent – sometimes it opens without resistance; and closing is generally no problem.
There is no mention of any requirement to lubricate the drawer runners in the handbook, but I am wondering if this is in fact necessary? I appreciate that this would need to be done with care, as the nature of the construction means that the drawer runners are effectively in the same compartment as the food.
For further explanation, we live in Germany, but as an ex-pat Brit it is easier to use an English language forum, and, in any case, my searches on Google.de have not revealed anything similar. The fridge is about 6 years old now, and the model is variously referred to as 7081 812-01 or KIUe 1501.
If anybody has any advice, I would be most grateful.
Thanks, Nigel

Hi Nigel
Take the drawers out and they may need cleaning due to the bits of food that drop out over the years.otherwise a quick spray of furniture polish onto the runners or wheels will do the trick.WD40 stinks like hell and is a oil furniture spray is normally a silicone base.

Hi Bryan,
Thanks very much for your prompt and helpful reply. I’ll certainly try a silicone-based furniture spray. Removing the drawer is probably more difficult – I did once try, but there are four screws, one of which simply refused to budge. I didn’t want to apply too much pressure due to the risk of distorting the runner and making the problem worse.
The drawer is the complete bottom compartment, and includes the fridge door, and the decorative wooden panel. The frustrating thing is that we chose the drawer type because it was supposed to be better for my wife, who is a wheelchair user; but in practice when the runners are so stiff, she virtually puts her shoulder out of joint when she tries to open it! Needless to say, we are not impressed!
Thanks again for your help.
Nigel
