Mains Flex Size

    Just idle curiosity this time but most of you will have noticed that a few years ago Hotpoint started using thinner mains flex on their washing machines. I believe the standard size for these flexes was 1.5 square millimetres but these thinner ones must be only about 1 mm. Have they managed this by reducing the overall current requirement of the appliance or are they just ignoring the regs? 😕

    I was told that it’s because of the new “thinwall” sleeving – the wires are apparently the same cross section.
