mains suppressor?

My Hoover tumble dryer has packed up and I’ve been told it needs a mains suppressor which will cost about £7 for the part and £30 to fit it (+vat)

Is it something I could fit myself easily enough?

That is a very reasonable estimate, for that job, it would cost well over £20 in overheads to actually call to your house. fitting a mains filter is not difficult as long as you make sure you remove the plug. Sometimes however a failed mains filter can damage the wiring around it needing more attention.

BTW, you forgot the most important bit, model and serial number. 😉

The dryer is actually at the repair shop – so I can’t give you the model/serial number etc.

I took it there for them to diagnose it for my convenience really rather than waiting for someone to call in.

It’s 8 years old but has not had much use so it’s a question whether it is fixing or not.

At £7 the answer would be yes… at £40+ pounds it becomes less clear.

They want to know tomorrow what I want to do with it,
a) get them to fix it
b) get them to bin it
c) collect it and try and get/fit the parts myself

I suspect that getting them to fix it would be best…

One of lifes little mysteries, they just do. 🙂

If the dryer is 8 years or a little older then it would be better repaired than replaced with the average, lower priced stuff on the market today. 😥
