Okay, so as I explained to the people that attended the meeting on Saturday…

You can manage you search results in the Engineer Search. You can alter, change or whatever you holiday status, brands and products to your little heart’s content. 🙂

If you want to access this function, obviously ahead of non-TA members I need to know your trading name and forum login to link them so you can access it. This allows you to tailor the work you get off the system.

Admittedly there may not be a lot coming off it now and, TBH, that’s to be expected as I comprehensively broke it for a while but that will be corrected in coming months. It may take a while but there will be work through it as some already know since they’ve had calls from it.

    Hi Ken,

Bit confused with this one.. I missed the meeting as my wife is expecting our second bundle of joy and is about to pop any minute!!!!

Is this the engineer search through the Approved Engineers tab on this site? Or through the WTA site.

    Either way details are :
    Trading Name : R L Oakey & Son
    Forum Login : blokes

Hope I dont sound to much of a dunce!! the thought of more sleepness nights is getting to me!!!!

No worries, account sorted to be able to manage your info.

And the attached will help explain how.

    Re: Manage Your Search Results

Just having a look at the WTA site revamp, nice. 8)

However, the find a WTA member/engineer feature seems to be screwed.

If I enter my own full postcode and 25 miles radius I am nowhere to be seen, If I enter my postcode and enter 10 miles I get a map of North America. :rolls:

If I enter the first three digits of my postcode I am there, if I enter my full six digit post code I disappear from the map. 😕

PS. What is the significance of the four or five RED icons on the map?

    Re: Manage Your Search Results

Trust you to find broken things! 😆

No idea on the map, need to look at it as we had to completely reinstall the damn thing tonight as well as other stuff then fix broken things. And, TBH, after a few hours looking at it and fixing stuff I’m done with anything involving much thought this evening.

I’ll get a look at it tomorrow and sort it.

The five red markers are the current team members, that’s about it really.

Some more little changes to follow to tidy things up a bit, make it a little prettier and functional. Then a couple of things that make it better.

But yes, all the TA team and I think it’s a much improved look, cleaner, more professional looking and just nicer to use in general.

It also allows us the ability to do things that previously were not possible.

    Re: Manage Your Search Results

I tapped in “Oldham” and got IADOM right away, 2.9 miles.

Tapped in “OL2” got you up as well.

Type in your full postcode and I think it assumes you know where you are. 😉

Maybe The Goog is smart after all.

Ah, but even some of my near neighbours may not know that.

Did you try the 10 miles option?

    Re: Manage Your Search Results

Now that is weird, if I enter another full OL2 postcode such as OL2 6BG ( a known Royton postcode ) my details come up using 10 or 25 mile radius option.

If I enter OL2 the same, but if I enter my own postcode, OL2 8JS I am not shown on the 25 mile radius and I get the map of North America on the 10 mile option. 😕

This only happens on the WTA site ‘find an engineer’ feature. The one one UKWG’s works perfectly with my full postcode.

EDIT did you try the 10 mile option with my full postcode?

    Re: Manage Your Search Results

I have to admit Jim, no I didn’t try with the full postcode but then, it’s a store/dealer locator so I would presume the assumption is that, it you’re on the same street within a few hundred yards, you’d know the company. So, they don’t show it thinking you’re looking for an alternative.

    It sorta makes sense TBH.

The UKW engineer search was hand coded from the ground up to to what, basically, I wanted it to do and follows a whole other set of rules. It’s far, far more complex and does heaps more, much of which hasn’t even been touched on let alone seen as yet.

But no third party coding at all.

Which is why, even if you put your own postcode in the UKW search you’d come up on that as a result, it’s a completely different and unrelated search. The only commonality is that they both use Google Maps to display the search results, beyond that, they are completely unrelated.

Been on this Close for over 28 years and I would guess that less than 15{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the people on here know what I do for my day job which is just how I like it, no late night door knockers. 8)

    Re: Manage Your Search Results

    Yup.

That’s one of the problems that anyone working from home has TBH. I’ve struggled with that one and looked for a way round publishing address details for people that work from home but yet to find a way to do it “in a proper way”.

The trouble of course is the balance between transparency and privacy.

    It’s a nut I’ve yet to crack.

But my thinking was that, in this age, that if someone really wants to find out who you are and where you are they pretty much can if they’re determined enough. So, does it really make any difference?

    Re: Manage Your Search Results

Okay, a few more changes as we improve things. 🙂

We’ve finally got the login thing to work properly the way it should have done in the first place and I’ve also allowed the mods and TA members to play with the ability that you now have to alter a lot of your details on the engineer search.

The login for the content side of the site is now no longer there, not needed now.

This is the new method for logging in…

Look at the top of the screen to the right hand side, see the “Member Login” text with a key, like this…

Click that, you get this pop up appear…

Enter your details as usual, like so….

Click on the login button, and the popup will close and you’ll see this now at the top….

This tells you that you’re logged in okay.

That’s about it really but that little bit of code wasn’t working for months till Sudeep stumbled on the problem yesterday by chance. Now I can do more funky stuff. 😉
